"silence
once engulfed
us all"

CAITLIN

The screams enveloped us until silence filled the room. Rhys hadn't been there, but his eyes had worry etched into them too, Greyson had long wandered off to "speak" with Ryan. And soon screams enveloped us again, before the world fell silent at our feet.

My legs travelled with a kind of their own, standing at Ryan's door, trying to listen to the conversation on the other side. Call me nosy, but I was just looking out for a friend now.

"Ryan I can explain please" Greyson pleads

"No you can't, try though, it'll be laughable" she replies angrily

"We didn't mean anything by it-"

"Surely you don't think I don't know what you meant" she begins " 'Someone's got to talk to Ry! She's going insane, screaming and having nightmares eh?' hilarious isn't it, but I can handle myself just fine."

"You can't"

"Get the fuck out" She screams

"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's going on with you"

"I said get out" she screams again

Noah rush's past me, hardly noticing me and pushes Greyson away from the room, exiting himself too. I use this time to slip into the room hearing their voices begin to talk about Ryan.

"You up for some shopping?" I ask pulling the girl out of bed.

"I have to get ready"

"I'll get ready with you love" I say easily

"Mhm" she hums back

And within half an hour we sit in my car, her reclined next to me, sitting shotgun. Within minutes of pulling up to the mall our eyes flash to a loud group of guys in the food court, they notice us too.

The ring leader of the group steps on front of Ryan now.

"Like what you see" he gestures to himself

Ryan laughs and punches him in the face, blood already rushing to his nose.

"I think that's a no" I say laughing as we pass by him easily

"No girls punching men is a definite yes, you're very dumb Caitlin" Ryan rolls her eyes as she walks into a close store.

"Oh Ry, you know I pride myself in being absolutely stupid"

"Obviously" she answers back

It's as though everything is normal. But we're runaway teens in a strange town in a shitty mall with boring people. But it's almost normal anyways.

Ryan spends as she likes, flashing me Noah's debit card and bending over laughing.

We reach the car later that day, our hands full of bags and smiles lacing their ways onto our faces. She hops in the car and we drive home. Racing up the stairs to my room, avoiding the boys as we do so.
