Year- 2015
Your breath was shallow as you bolted down the street. The hospital was in your view now, you were almost there.
You quickened your pace slightly as you neared the entrance. You pushed open the doors, and observed the nearly empty waiting room. The nurse at the front desk looked up from her phone, and gave you a questioning look. You took a deep breath, collecting you and your thoughts. If only you had a car, you had had a rental for a while but last night you had brought it back. "How inconvenient." You grumbled under your breath. You could've gotten to Kai faster if you had still had it.
You plastered a smile across your face as you approached the nurse. "Hello." You said, her focus still on her phone.
She lifted her head up and greeted you, "Hello miss." The tone of her voice was sweet, but clearly tired.
"Someone I know passed out and they're at this hospital. I was wondering if I could visit him? His name is Kai Kamal Huening." She quickly searched his name up on her computer, and scrolled for a bit.
"I see him, he's in room 259." Your shoulders relaxed a bit at the woman's tone. She was calm.
"How is his condition?" You asked.
"He's doing well. I checked up on him a few hours ago. We hooked him up to an IV because he's dehydrated, but other than that he's sleeping. He'll go home in a day or two."
You nod happily, a smile threatening to show. "That's great, can I visit him?"
She scrunches her nose, "Well, only family and the boy who brought him in can be with him at this moment-"
"I'm his sister!" You wanted to slap a hand over your mouth, you did not mean to lie. But, you were so desperate. The nurse only gave you a side eye, and granted you permission. She taped a band to your wrist, and sent you off.
You stepped onto the elevator, and pressed the button for level 2. The elevator shook as it lifted up, you stumbled back. When the door opened you quickly exited the doors. Looking down the two opposite halls, you decided to go left. The halls were long, and narrow. The overhead lights gave your skin a grayish undertone. Soon enough you spotted his room, and began walking a bit faster. You didn't want to run, fearing you may wake other patients. When you reached the door you looked through the small window. Kai was sleeping, his wrist connected to an IV drip. Beside him was Yeonjun in a chair, his head resting on Kai's bed. The sheets were a horribly bright white, and all but one light was off. It was a small cloud shaped lamp on the bedside table, it must've be Kai's. "Yeonjun must've brought it when he took him here." You thought, you had seen the lamp at Kai's place once. Is that where he fainted? How did Yeonjun get him here? You had quite a few questions, but decided you would ask them when Huening woke up.
You carefully opened the door, as to not wake the sleeping boys. You smiled at them, though it wasn't the best situation they did look cute. You walked towards Yeonjun, and tapped his shoulder. "Jun?" No reply. You tapped him a little harder, and his sleepy eyes began to open.
He looked confused when he saw you, but yawned before he could say anything. "Y/N? What are you doing here? Are those your.. Pajamas?" You nodded, trying to give him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry about it, I'll explain everything in the morning. Go home, I'll take care of him." He sighed, and ruffled up his hair a bit.
He slipped on his coat, "I'll be back at 10 tomorrow morning. Is that ok?" You gave him a thumbs up, and he left.
You sat down where he was sitting before and made yourself comfortable. It looked like you would be there all night. Kai was still sleeping, his breath quiet. Your eyes moved to his lips, and you stared. They were so pink, and plump. His hair was permed, still the simple brown you adored. His cheeks were rosy with blush. And his chest heaved up and down with each breath. At that moment you wanted to kiss him, to caress his cheek. But you knew it would be plain wrong to kiss someone without their permission. So, you laid back in your chair, and closed your eyes.
When you woke up, it was not by the sun but a whisper in your ear. You groaned, turning away from the whisper. "No.."
You mumbled, making the whisper laugh. "Y/N, come on! Wake up!"
You sighed, and opened your eyes. To your surprise there was Kai sitting up in his bed. Your eyes went wide, and in your excitement you gripped both of his hands in yours. "You're awake!" You exclaimed as you leaned in to hug him.
He wrapped his arms around you, and chuckled. "What are you doing here anyway? Did Yeonjun call you?" You nodded, still in his arms. He shook his head, "I'm sure you were worried. I'm sorry." You shook your head, that was a lie. You were worried sick, but you didn't want to worry the poor boy. "I'm really sorry, I swear. I was practicing for a hours, and my eating and drinking schedule hasn't been good. Lucky Jun was there to film my second audition, he took me to the hospital right away. But Im alright, I'll go home soon."
"That's good." You reply, not knowing what else to say. That's when you remembered, what you had promised to tell him. To beg him not to leave you. But could you really do it? Yes, of course, you had to. You would tell him.
"Kai." You said as you removed yourself from his arms. He looked up, and cocked his head slightly.
"I have.. Something to tell you." You fidgeted nervously in your seat, taking a deep breath you continued.
"Kai, I've been wanting to tell you this. For a long time now, and it's really important. It's that.. I like you-"
"Wait, stop, Y/N.." Kai was looking straight, not even close to your direction.
"No, Y/N. I'm sorry. You can't. I cant stay, I don't like you. I'm sorry. I really am, you're a great friend but..." He didn't finish but you understood. Tears stained your face, making your nose pink.
"I'll go. Yeonjuns coming at 10. I think, this might be the last time we see each other. For a long time. So, goodbye." You faced the door, too afraid to look him in the eyes. This was the end. The end of a silly crush, after that day you always wondered. Wondered if things would be different if you never told him. But then, he would've still left you. At least, you got to choose. But this was the end. And you were going to let him go.
"Y/N wait-" But you quickly shut the door before he could finish.
"I'll miss you."
