"Rise and Shine, my little ursine!" My mother, Amore, said while softly slapping my cheek. "It's your 16th Birthday today hun."

"Urrrrrhmm," I say groggily, rubbing my eyes. "Geez, already?"

I, Noelle Wilson, am a werewolf. Not a very proud one at that. I understand that I can't change the fact that I am a werewolf but humans are just so... civilized. I mean, we all live in a pack house, where there is little privacy, we follow a hierarchy, and I can't even begin to tell you how ridiculous this mate thing is.

"My little girl is growing up so fast," She wipes the tears off of her face. "Soon, you'll find your mate and then I can have little grandpups-"

"Hey, it's too soon for that," I say, feeling a little uncomfortable.

"Oh hun," She says. "You know your dad and I met when we were only 16 and we instantly clicked-"

"I get it, I get it." I sighed, making my way to my closet.

"If you say so," She said dejectedly. "I'll be off to work now, breakfast is no the table."

Good grief. I knew she meant the best for me but every time I tell her that I don't need nor want a mate she gets all mad at me, telling me that without my mate I am only half myself.

"She's right you know" My wolf, Nova, said to me.

Despite being my wolf, we couldn't be even more different. Mainly our views in life, she wants me to stay with the pack and find my 'oh so special mate' and settle down with him. I, on the other hand, wish to become a concept artist for a video game company. You know that overused image with the caption "there are two wolves inside you". Yea, it's basically that but in reality.

"Don't you dare start lecturing me, you horndog," I say, aggravated. She growled at my response. I opened my closet and pulled out a few articles of clothing. I put on a black short-sleeved, button-up and paired it with my red high-waisted jeans. I put my white locks of hair into a simple braid tied with a ribbon at the end. I head down to the dining room and am immediately greeted by my father.

"Hello, dad," I say, smiling. He nodded in return, showing that he got the message. We aren't really close with each other but that doesn't mean we don't care. It's the little actions he does that truly show he loves me. Grabbing a piece of toast set aside for me, I walked out the door and towards school.
