"Stop it!!!"
"Leave me alone!",
she shouted,almost tearing up.
"Aww!is little Myra afraid?"
the boys exclaimed,mocking her.
Myra backed up but she slipped on the mud and fell. She was holding her tears for so long but now she couldn't. She started crying and the boys started laughing.
"Back off, Elijah!" shouted the orphanage's warden Mrs.Gupta.
"If I see both of you bullying Myra again, you will spend the entire night alone!"she shouted and the boys scrambled, running off to their rooms.
"Hey,are you okay?are you hurt?" she said softly, helping Myra back on her feet. She nodded, wiping her tears.
"Why don't you go and clean up and meet me in the common room? I have a small surprise for you"
Myra's eyes lit up,like a candle in a dark room and ran back to her room. She loved surprises.
She wiped her bruises slowly like Ms.Lily Zane, the orphanage nurse had tend her wounds.
When she first came to the orphanage, she spend most of her time at the nurses office than her room.
She was bullied almost everyday by the girl named Rheya but one day Myra decided to fight back and she almost ended up in the nurses office for days. Rheya was transferred to another orphanage and Myra thought she finally had some breathing time but now Elijah was another bully and she was tired of fighting back. There were some days that she would cry almost everyday but now she knew how to control her emotions.Myra changed her dress into a red dress with white and golden embroidery. This was her favourite dress because it was a gift from her mother and also the last memory of her. Her parents died in a car crash when she was just 10 years old. It had been 2 years since they passed away and she remembers them and talks to them everyday.
She had put her hair in a low ponytail and had tied it with a golden ribbon. Mrs.Gupta always had said that her eyes resembled with her father's,both brown like raisins.Myra sat in the common room, eagerly waiting for Mrs.Gupta to tell her the surprise.Mrs.Gupta arrived 10mins later and had a big warm smile on her face.
"You look beautiful Myra." she said in a soft voice
Myra smiled from the compliment.
"Are you ready for your surprise?"
"Yes!" Myra exclaimed. She took her to the meeting area where the parents who wanted to adopt a child would meet the children. Myra had been to this room only once
to meet a couple but they never came back.At the corner of the room sat a couple, Mrs.Gupta walked Myra towards them. They sat in front of them.
"Mr. and Mrs.Wallace meet Myra Pierce" said Mrs.Gupta.
They both smiled brightly. Mrs.Wallace looked similar to Myra's mother, she had her hair up in a effortless bun and wore a pretty beige dress which complimented her hazel eyes. Mr.Wallace on the other hand looked ready to conduct business as if he was here for a business transaction than to adopt a child but he still gave Myra a warm smile.
Myra felt nervous because she always hoped for a family and when the last couple never came back she lost that hope.
"Hello there Myra! My Name is Vivian and this is my Husband Derek" said Mrs.Wallace's
Myra gave them both a small smile.
After a while they talked and Myra felt comfortable with them and she finally felt relaxed after a very long time.It had been more than 1 hour since they started talking.
"Myra, would you like to be a part of her family?" Vivian asked in a serious tone. She said in a way that made Myra think that maybe there are more members to their family.
Myra was reluctant as she had just met them.
"Myra, if you come with us we will make sure that you will never be bullied in your entire life"
Myra blinked twice as they couldn't have known.
Vivian quickly said "I hope you don't mind Mrs.Gupta told us." More than a reason it sounded like an excuse to her. Some part of Myra's heart wanted to go with them. She was tired of the bullying, she yearned for a family and day by day the children at the orphanage became less as they joined their new home. She was scared that she might be the only one who would be left in the end.
"Myra?"
"I would love to"Myra said and the Wallace's squealed with happiness and hugged her in tight embrace.• • • • • •
After an hour of paperwork and packing Myra's things, she hugged Mrs.Gupta tightly and thanked her and sat in the Wallace's car.
She kept rethinking about her memories from the orphanage, there were mostly painful ones and thought that she would never have to face Elijah ever again.
After 2 hrs of car ride, Myra wanted to ask how long till they reached but kept her mouth shut.
"Just 20 minutes more love" Vivian said as if she read her mind and Myra gave her a smile.
After 20 minutes they reached and Myra's mouth fell open. It was a house that had several windows and could accommodate atleast 30 people.
As they went inside, she saw something she didn't expect.
There were almost 20 children in the room about her age some even older and they were all standing in a uniformed line.
When Myra looked around, there were no pictures and no furnitures. There were guards placed at every door, indicating that there was no way out now.Myra suddenly felt scared, she didn't know what was going on, she didn't know all these people and she just met the Wallace's. She soon started to regret her decision but there was no going back now.
"Why don't you stand in line as well Myra?"Vivian said.
Myra wanted to ask so many questions but she didn't instead she did what Vivian asked.
She stood behind the line and beside her was a boy constantly eyeing her.
"Hey there!" He said
Myra gave him a nod.
"I'm Kastor, with a K"
"Hello, Kastor, with a K, I'm Myra."she said smiling
He laughed
"I fell right into it"
Myra gave him a smile.
But her attention quickly changed as she heard loud claps."Attention students!" Said Mr.Wallace
"Welcome to JUSTICE, We serve justice and abolish the foe"
"We will train you and you will help the us abolish our foe"Myra was scared even more now.Who were these people, who are these children, why was she here, all these questions started to cloud her mind. She looked towards Kastor and he gave her a calming smile but she knew that deep inside, everyone was scared of what was about to happen.
She thought that she was going to be part of a family but instead she became a part of something much bigger...
