The world is an awful place. The world was so terrible that even its creator had decided that it wasn't worth the effort and gave up on it. The Earth was full of horrible people who only cared about themselves.

That is something Ebony learned at a very young age.

From the moment he came into the world, Ebony knew the world had it out for him. When the boy had been born his parents had been going through what they referred to as "a rough patch". They always said that they would be out of it soon but as time went on Ebony began to believe that less and less.

That small amount of hope was diminished when he was only six years old.

The first thing the boy noticed when he got home from school was the silence. The silence was weird to him because his house was rarely quiet.

There was always some sort of noise.

Whether the noise was the overly loud music his mother loved to play, the sound of whatever show his father had chosen to watch that day, or even the loud shouts and curses the two constantly threw at each other as they fought.

There was always noise. So the lack of it surprised and almost scared the young boy. He walked around the lower floor of the house calling out for his parents.

"Mom!" He called into the bathroom.

No answer.

He walked into the living room, stopping to stand in the middle.

"Dad?"

Yet again there was no answer.

He started to walk upstairs to look in their room.

When he had reached it and was standing outside their door, he could hear voices from inside.

He couldn't make out what they were saying but he could hear his mother's voice. He didn't recognize the second.

He reached out to grab the doorknob, slowly pushing open the door and gasping at what he saw.

On the bed was his mother. Kissing a man who was not his father. "Mom?" He called out flinching when she whipped her head around to look at him and began shouting.

"Go back to your room!" echoed through the silent house. Ebony ran into his room.

Ebony was sobbing in his room when he heard the front door creak open, looking up to see his already confused dad walking to his room.

"Hey, why are you crying," Ebonys dad asks softly, voice colored with concern. Ebony took a moment to respond before speaking through tears "Mom's with another man".

Ebony felt as if time had stopped as he watched the look on his father's face darken, going from confused and concerned to more furious than he had ever seen the man.

The last quiet sound he heard for the rest of the night was a simple "ok" as Ebony felt the anger and fury radiating off of his fathers retreating form as he leaves the boys room

Ebony slowly following his father watches as his father walks into the room and starts yelling things incoherently, Ebony now scared of what he started runs back to his room in fear of what his father would do. Ebony hides inside of his closet and peaks ever so slightly out of it so he can see what's happening.

He hears an all too familiar sound of sirens blasting through the house loud enough to make the neighbors wake up. The front door opens as a quiet but cool wind goes through the house, heavy and unfamiliar footsteps he watched as three uniformed men walked into that back room, Ebony already knew what was about to happen.

Ebony put his headphones on and began to blast music to drown out the screaming, the same song keeps playing, the same words "IT'S A PARTY IN THE USA" blasting into his ears, then Ebony from the barely open door of his closet watches as his dad is put in handcuffs while blood is dripping from his fist. Ebony takes his headphones off to only hear his mother's soft sobs, and a voice he has never heard yelling, but Ebony put his headphones on before hearing what he was saying. Ebony saw the man look at him as he was peeping through the door, Ebony slammed the door shut and locked himself inside of the closet.

About three hours after the police left Ebony finally got the courage to unlock the closet and see what happened, Ebony walked to his mom's room, the quiet sound of her weeping filled the house, Ebony looked into the hall away from the room. The door is wide open and there are small bloodstains on the wall, he crept his way into his mom's room, the sharp smell of blood in the air made Ebony dizzy, he saw his mom sitting on the floor with blood on her hands and face, Ebonys mom looked at him and saw a glimpse of his father in him. Ebony watches his mother's tears turn into hate as she raises her hand, a single sound echoed through the house the last loud sound that would happen, a slap boomed through the house then everything stopped, Ebony knew his pain only just started.
