Four years after Ebony's dad went to jail, nothing in his house changed.
Man after man would come and go, day and night.
Ebony would be locked in his room unable to leave or even eat some days. The only thing that would keep him sane is the sound of his music or the days he was allowed to go to school, for which he was an outcast, but anything is better than home.
He only sees his mother's cold lifeless face when she comes home after work, unable to even make it past the door. Ebony usually carries his mom back to her room.
Ebony places his mom in her room. His mother starts realizing every day he looks more and more like his father. She looks at Ebonys face, and the cold, dead look terrifies her.
The boy watches as his mom pulls out a bottle and throws it, CRASH the bottle shatters against his head, blood starts to cover his eyes, and he sprints away and hides in his room.
It's been weeks since Ebony left his room, only leaving to grab small bits of food he finds on old plates that his mom left after having a date with her new boyfriend.
After three weeks of this Ebony decides he will go to school today for that small chance of being away from his mom.
He leaves at 6 am to walk to school to make it by 7:30 am.
With each step Ebony feels free, he feels happy he thinks he found a way to feel alive.
He makes it to school at 7:30 feeling like no time has passed.
It's been about a month since Ebony last showed up to school. As a result, he was getting stared at by everyone, whispers filled up the school, each voice trying to top each other making it sound like yelling.
When Ebony arrives at his first-class he can feel everyone's eyes on him as he walks to his first class, but he chooses to ignore them like he has all day.
He slowly walks up to his desk.
A loud crash fills the room as Ebony falls, his chair having been pulled from underneath him as he tries to sit.
Laughter fills up the room.
Ebony looks behind him and remembers the reason he doesn't go to school. It was David, the kid who had bullied him from the start.
Ebony is an easy kid to pick on; he is quiet, small, and broken.
Ebony decides to ignore it, pick up his chair, and sit down.
The teacher walks into the classroom and once again, the room is silent.
Sounds of pencils tapping, and the low voice of the teacher, go back and forth through the room.
A loud bell goes off, everyone stands up, chairs are pushed back and everyone leaves.
This happens 5 times.
Ebony thinks he can make it through today but has soon had he starts to leave his last class, he is pushed into a wall.
"So do you have my money?" David yells into his ear.
He turns around to face the taller.
"n-no," said softly by Ebony.
David raised his arm back and swung, hitting Ebony in the face.
It didn't hurt him. The other boy's punch was nothing compared to the pain his mom inflicted onto him on a regular basis.
Ebony just put his head down and walked away, he walked all the way back home.
Back to his lonely shell, the house is still quiet and dark.
Ebony locked his door and went to sleep that night.
For the first time, Ebony felt pissed and his mind finally got to him
"Why, Why, WHY," kept playing inside of his head.
Ebony's mind was flushed with hate and questions, he felt so many things that he hadn't felt before, the overwhelming feeling put him asleep.
He kept feeling like this every night, his feelings only got worse and worse, but he could never break.
Slowly Ebony's world turned dark, time lost meaning, colors didn't mean anything.
This was when he knew true pain, loneliness.
