In the Round Room, Xemnas informed the assembled Organization members of Xion's disappearance. He continued by prohibiting anyone from pursuing her. Unhappy with Xemnas's decision, Roxas and Kirihax argued that they should search for Xion, but was told that all will become clear when the time came. Xemnas concluded the meeting with those words.
—Day 257—
The days passed without Xion. Axel no longer came to the usual spot, and Roxas and Kirihax sat alone, eating their ice cream.
—Day 276—
Memories of Sora, Hikari and Riku at Destiny Islands has been replaying after Roxas and Kirihax arrived at Destiny Islands, picking up seashells. "Xion..."
While Kirihax was looking at the seashell, Roxas saw a hooded figure which hopefully is Xion. "Xion!"
Kirihax saw Roxas going after Xion. "Roxas, wait!"
The figure looked at Roxas and pulled down the hood to reveal the face of a deceased Organization member... Zexion but it was an illusion.
"Surely...you must've known that this was going to happen," Zexion said, facing Riku.
"Why would I know?" the illusion Riku said as he walked past Roxas.
"Because, in your memory, you've been to a number of worlds before you came to this one," Zexion explained to Riku.
As the illusions of Zexion and Riku kept talking, Roxas started to feel pain in his head and then turns into Xion, Riku and Sora.
"Hey! Roxas!" Kirihax shouted as she used water to splash a sleeping Roxas. "Wake up!"
Roxas gasped and looked at Kirihax. "What happened?"
"You were dozing off," Kirihax answered. "But now is not the time for questions. We're supposed to be looking out for Xion."
While the two were talking, Riku had found Xion unconscious.
"Who am I?" Xion muttered while being unconscious. "What am I...here for?"
Riku was examining Xion and remembered his talk with Naminé.

Earlier in the Old Mansion at Twilight Town... As King Mickey left, Naminé said to Riku, "So we meet again."
"You made me a promise," Riku said.
"I remember. It was to look after Sora and Hikari," Naminé nodded. "I'm sorry... I'm not sure I've kept that promise very well."
"Can you tell me what's happening?" Riku asked.
"Some of Sora and Hikari's memories are missing," Naminé answered.
Riku was shocked. "How could that be?"
"Sora and Hikari's memories are escaping through Sora and Hikari's Nobodies into a third person—and now they're starting to become a part of her," Naminé explained.
"Isn't there a way to bring back just Sora and Hikari's memories?" Riku asked.
"If they're still separate...then I think I can take out fragments of it," Naminé said as she looks at the page of her sketchbook with a drawing of Roxas, Kirihax, Axel and Xion. "But if her memories and Sora and Hikari's memory fragments are completely weaved together... I would need to untangle them from each other and that would take more time. Which means it would take even longer before Sora and Hikari can wake up again. And DiZ wouldn't tolerate that."
"So what can you do?" Riku asked.
"If I just jump in and rearrange her memory...then Sora and Hikari might wake up only to find out that nobody remembers them anymore," Naminé said. "That's a risk I just can't take. It's too late either way. Sora and Hikari's awakening has already been delayed. Sora and Hikari's Nobodies and the one that's absorbing their memories... None of us imagined that they would fight so hard to become their own people. Unfortunately, the only real solution...is for all three to go away. Did you know her face was blank at first? But now...there is a face that is clearly visible. I think that's proof that she has entered Sora and Hikari's memories. Sora and Hikari's memories, Sora and Hikari's Nobodies's memories, and her memories... They're all a jumbled mess now. And to put them back into two...I'm afraid there's no other way."
"All right," Riku nodded.
As the flashback ended... Riku saw Roxas and Kirihax running through the dark corridor, knew that they're his next target. Xion began dreaming of watching the sunset with Roxas, Kirihax and Axel.
"Is it that I'm not supposed to exist?" Xion asked.
"Well, what do you want to do, Xion?" Axel frowned.
"I want...I want to be with you three," Xion said as she turns to Roxas. "Well... mostly you, Roxas because I love you."
Roxas placed his hand onto Xion's hands. "Then come back with us."
"Yeah," Kirihax said. "What Roxas is saying... there are other things than ice cream. Going to other worlds, have fun together... That kind of thing."
Xion smiled a little but frowned as she hugged Roxas tightly. "I can't... Not the way I am now. But...what would it take for me to be like you and Kirihax?"
Meanwhile at Twilight Town, Roxas and Kirihax arrived at the clock tower to see Axel. "Hey... It's been a while," Roxas said.
"You think so?" Axel asked.
"So...we went to the beach today," Kirihax explained. "And there was this girl who looked kind of like Xion...but we couldn't get close enough to tell for sure. We probably imagined it."
"I agree," Roxas nodded. "To be honest, I'm not even sure today's mission really happened. Feels like we just woke up from a dream or something.
Kirihax remembered the promise earlier and looks at Axel and Roxas. "Do you remember our promise? When we said that the four of us would go to the beach on our next break?"
"Oh yeah!" Roxas nodded. "Maybe that's why. Maybe we saw Xion there because we wanted her to be there."
Axel stands up and thinks about it. Then he looked at Roxas and Kirihax. "Wanna go look for her?"
"Really?" Kirihax smiled.
Axel nodded. "Beginning tomorrow, let's use our spare time to find Xion."
Roxas smiled as well. "Sounds good, let's do that."
