"What are the results?"
Down in the deep world below, where mortals try to rip and tear themselves out of their personal hells, is a demon couple. Mr. Colton Expiry paced the floor. Left and right.. left and right..His wife, Fiammetta, stared intently at a pregnancy test. The couple have been trying to produce a baby for many years. Unfortunately, with Fiammetta's line of work, carrying a baby isn't very easy anyway. She works for the national guard, and stepping down, even for just a few days, would be highly dangerous. She is considered one of the most well trained in their realm. Even then, the injuries she had previously endured have gotten in the way of carrying a baby properly in the past.
Over a five year period, since they've been wed, they had 3 miscarriages and any other attempt was worthless. All the Expiries wanted was at least one baby they could call their own. No matter the cost.
Soon, Fiammetta's long, dark, almond hair dropped over her face in dread. Her hands slowly shook. Colton caught onto it quickly, seeing the test was negative.
"We aren't going to get a baby, Colton. Seems like the world's against us on that one," Fiammetta began.
"Fia, please.. Don't say that, dear-"
"I don't think I can handle trying again, my love. We lost so many, why risk it again?" Fia gently started crying.
"We will succeed next time! One way or-"
"HOW!?" Fia shot a nasty glare at her husband.Colton was taken aback. He shut up for a bit.. How would they be able to? She has low fertility. There is almost no way they can. Unless...
"I can borrow souls. Souls that deserve another chance at life," Colton began. "As long as we don't get caught, everything should be fine."
"But what if we do get caught?.." Fia's expression softened. Last thing she wants is to potentially lose her husband. The consequences for interfering with the courses of souls are rather hefty. The Lord above wouldn't have it. Is it truly worth it?"We won't. As long as we're careful. An infant's soul is also easier to take than say, an old man."
Colton formed his wings and readied up his magic.
"Colton..."
"Fia. This might be our last chance. And we're saving a life,"She knew there is no other way. No more chances. If they have to play Russian Roulette to start a family after so long, then maybe it's finally time to take the risk. All she could do is simply nod. Tossing the pregnancy test aside, she formed her wings as well.
"Only one. That's it," she whimpered.
"Ok, only one."After a long way through, they found the portal to the human world. Neither were lucky enough to be born with teleportation, so they must go the way imps shall; through the Guarded Portals.
Shimmering, shiny golden and ruby armor awaited them. The guards looked down and gave Fiammetta a nod. They stepped aside for the couple and allowed them through.
One final fly up, through the Earth's atmosphere, led them to where all the souls were slowly rising or sinking, accepting their fates.
As fast as they could, the couple split up.
Elderly...
Druggies..
Middle aged...
Poor..
Rich...
The self-taken..
Nearly no children were in sight. At least, until..."There!! Coming from that home!" Colton pointed at the Jacobs' house.
"Let's go!!" Fia flew after. They finally reached the twins, after a lot of zigzagging.
"Wait a second.. Two?.." Fia muttered.
"We only wanted one. . ." Colton looked at her.
"But they're twins! We can't leave one behind, can we?.."
"No, that wouldn't be fair. Their real parents would want them together. Let's take them both," Colton gently grabbed Marie's soul, as Fia took ahold of Mark's.
"Which one do we carry first though?" Colton looked toward his wife.
"I guess the boy, the girl shall come after."After a while, the pair eventually get home. Colton activates his magic and places Marie where her soul will be safe. Fia gently absorbs Mark's soul, but makes sure it stays separate so that she won't ruin him. Now.. they just had to try again.
