December 1999
WinterThe Malfoy's have been preparing for their Christmas party for almost four months. It was a tradition they hadn't been able to have since 1995. Draco thought it was absurd his mother cared so much, her logic behind it was unknown to him.
He also hadn't known she cried herself to sleep. The thought of anyone talking down on their family made her weep. She had hatred towards Draco's father. A hatred so deep she didn't know where it started or ended. It was burning her from inside to out.
Draco was oblivious. He was drowning within his own sorrows. He had an image to uphold that was killing him. And maybe one day it will.
It's been a year. A year since the story of the boy who lived concluded. Draco wished to be in his sequel but he was only a mere memory.
Harry's year was booked to the rim. He kept himself busy to forget everything. Every loss, every touch, every thought of pain that the last twenty years have brought his poor soul.
His year started with helping rebuild Hogwarts. He got a job at the ministry and is one of the top auras. He suspects he got there so quickly because of the killer he...well just killed.
He didn't mind. Finally, for the first time in Harry's life, he wanted to use it to his advantage and keep busy with rounding up death eaters.
He hadn't seen, thought or cared about Draco Malfoy since he walked away from that courtyard.
That's what he told himself anyway.
