The past couple of days I've been home from work, I've been feeling irritated in my bottom area. It has been very painful, itchy, and I have noticed small sores also.
I didn't think anything about it at first since I have been sexually active with my boyfriend Jalen recently.
Jalen and I have been in a relationship for three years now. We first discovered each other on Instagram. He reached out to me first and the rest is history, but in the last six months of our relationship we have been on and off. We would break up for awhile, stop talking to each other, and end up back together.
Jalen and I are different in some areas. For example, I'm more into church but he's not. Every time I would ask him to go to church with me his responds is "No that's not my thing. What's the point of going?" I always have my doubts about this relationship, but at the same time I'm always hopeful that things get better between us.
I get up from the couch to go to the bathroom to urinate, but I have this feeling of nervousness come through my body as the thought of pain comes to my mind.
I lift up the toilet seat and begin to urinate. As I'm urinating, I feel this painful burn come through my vagina. It's so painful till the point I don't even want to use the bathroom anymore. When I finish using the restroom I decided to call my doctor, Dr. Jackie to schedule an appointment to see what's going on.
Front Desk Lady (Denise): "Hello, thank you for calling Dr. Jackie's office. How may I help you?"
Ava: "Yes, I am calling in today to schedule an appointment."
Denise: "Can you tell me what's going on?"
Ava: "I am irritated in my bottom area. When I urinate it's very painful and itchy. I also have noticed small sores down there too." I was so embarrassed to even say that to her. Not knowing what she was thinking in the back of her mind.
Denise: "Oh my Lord! Well Dr. Jackie has an opening at two o'clock today. Will that be a good time for you?"
Ava: "Yes ma'am that would be a great time!"
Denise: "Alrighty great, we will see you at two o'clock today Ms. James"
Ava: "Yes ma'am, thank you!"
When I hung up the phone, I go turn on the shower water to bathe myself for the doctors appointment. As I'm bathing myself, thoughts began to wonder through my mind. Trying to figure out what the hell is going on with me.
The last few times Jalen and I were sexual we did not use condoms. He felt that we did not need them and sex would be better without them. Often times I wonder if I made a mistake. I have no clue on if he was with someone or not in the process of our last breakup. If he was and did not tell me I'm going to be beyond heartbroken.
After I finish getting myself cleaned up, I grabbed my keys and purse to head to the doctors office.
Dr. Jackie's Office
As I arrive to Dr. Jackie's I start to feel very anxious. I don't know what kind of news that I will walk out of here with today, but whatever it is I pray Dr. Jackie won't tell me something I'm not ready to hear.
Denise: "Hi Ms. James, if you do not mind could you please sign these papers for me while you're waiting? Dr. Jackie will be with you in a minute."
Ava: "Yes ma'am I sure can."
I then take a seat in the waiting area filling out papers with a bunch of questions. I never understood why every time I come in here I have to sign and answer the same shit over and over again.
As I'm signing the last sheet of paper, a nurse calls for me to tell me Dr. Jackie is ready for me.
Ava: "Oh Lord here we go!" I said as chills began to flow through my body.
Dr. Jackie Comes In

Dr. Jackie: "Hello Ms. James, how are you doing today?" Every since I have been knowing Dr. Jackie she's always had an uplifting spirit. Always laughing and smiling. Her husband is a doctor as well. He use to be my mothers doctor back in the day.
Ava: "I'm a little nervous. I have been having problems in my bottom area." I noticed her eyes go into shock. This is the first time I had ever given Dr. Jackie this type of news.
Dr. Jackie: "I see on my computer it says you have been feeling symptoms as pain, itching, and RED SORES?" She looked so into shock that it made my nerves even worse. This doesn't seem good at all.
Dr. Jackie: "Have you been sexually active lately? Please be honest."
Ava: "Yes ma'am. My boyfriend and I have been sexually active a lot lately. We have not been using condoms the last few times that we were sexual. Plus we've just gotten back together after a long breakup, so I'm not sure if he was with someone else or not." I explain to her on the verge of shedding a few tears. I get emotional sometimes when I speak on my relationship with Jalen.
Dr. Jackie: "Well this is what we're gonna have to do. We will have to test you for Herpes, HIV, and Chlamydia. Just to let you know if you do come out with any three of these diseases we will have to document it in our files and have to put you on medication immediately, but in the mean time try to stay positive.
Ava: "I pray that I don't have anything, but let's test me to see what's going on." I feel sick to my stomach, if Dr. Jackie comes back and tells me that I have any three of these diseases it will destroy my entire world.
Dr. Jackie swabbed my vagina, took a urine sample, and a few blood test. Afterwards, she told me to put my clothes back on and wait at least a few days for the results and she would call me in.
