"Mom, she's still sleeping!" Beverly yelled after she opened the door to Mara's room
"Oh my God Mara! I told you to get ready an hour ago! AN HOUR!" the girls mom says as she comes running into the room.
Mara wasn't really listening to what she said. Today is the day the kids have to leave for summer camp and she would do anything to delay the leaving. Aaron and Beverly aren't much help. Aaron wants to go there just because his friends dared him to go. Beverly is usually on Mara's side but now she said that she wants to find a boyfriend and what place more perfect than camp.
"Yeah mom I know. I'll be down in a second." Mara told her mom. 'God why do I have to gooo... ' she thought
The girl throws the blanket off of her and heads for the bathroom. She brushes her teeth and takes a shower then she goes back to her room to change in a pair of shorts and a Black Sabbath T-shirt. She brushes her hair and let's it loose. Mara then heads downstairs and sees the whole family eating breakfast. The girl takes a seat next to her brother and begins filling her plate with pancakes.
"Enjoy your breakfast. We won't get to eat anything good for the next 2 months." Aaron says and Mara giggles.
Aaron has always liked to mess around with her sisters. Him and Mara are twins and he likes to pretend that he can read the girl's mind just to scare her. The two of them have always had a good relationship. They always cover up for one another. They even tried to switch places once but of course they got caught. The twins like to pull pranks on their little sister from time to time.
"Oh come on now Aaron." their dad comments "Just the facts." Aaron continues.
"I've heard that a kid died from eating that food" Beverly said with a disgusted look on her face. "Okay that's enough! That rumour is totally false. No one died!" says the now angry mother. Beverly gives her a look that says 'whatever' and continues eating her pancake.
"I just don't get why I'm forced to go there." Mara says as she takes a bite out of the food from her plate. No one said anything else and resumed what they were doing before.
After everyone finished eating the parents were waiting downstairs while the kids went upstairs to grab their bags and other stuff they needed. Mara went to Aaron's room only to find him struggling to close his suitcase.
"Need any help?" Mara asked while she leaned on the door frame. Aaron turned to face her rolling his eyes. "I think I got it Mar" he told his twin. A few seconds after he said that he successfully closed the suitcase "See. Told you I got it" Aaron continues with a proud smile on his face. Mara chuckles at his behavior and goes back to her room to get her suitcase. Downstairs her parents and sister are waiting for the two remaining siblings at the car. The girl puts her bag in the trunk and gets in the backseat. When Aaron arrived the family was on it's way to Camp Silver Lake.
The road was long and tiring. The three kids were sleeping. Mara was sitting between Aaron and Beverly. She had her head on Aaron's shoulder, Beverly had her head on Mara's lap and she was curled up like a puppy while Aaron was using his hand to sustain his head. Then the car stopped. The kids felt it and woke up. Looking around the three siblings saw a sign saying "Camp Silver Lake". They arrived. One by one the kids got out of the car. The parents handed each one of them their suitcases and gave them a quick kiss on the cheek. "Okay mom that's enough" Beverly said trying to get out of her mother's grasp. As the three of them were heading for the entrance of the camp they heard their mom yell "And please behave!". The kids turned around and waved to their parents and continued walking.
"Okay you gotta admit...it doesn't look too bad" Aaron said looking at his twin. Mara knew he was right but she didn't want to admit it. The camp was beautiful really. A bunch of kids from ages 7 to 18 were saying goodbye to their parents and meeting their friends. Some of them like the three siblings were new and looked disorientated.
"So...what are we gonna do now?" asked Beverly. Mara turned to her right to look at Beverly while she said "I don't know, maybe we should go to the mess hall. I see people are heading that way" then she pointed to a group of kids heading towards a building bigger than the cabins around them.
The three siblings followed the other kids to the mess hall. There one of the counselors told them to leave their bags in a pile of other bags. Then the kids headed inside and sat together at a table somewhere in the back of the room.
After a few minutes of waiting a slightly tall guy climbed on top of a table in the middle of the room. Then everyone stopped whatever they were doing to watch him.
"Hello everyone!" he said loud enough for everyone to hear him "My name is Vincent and I am the let's say 'boss' here. Which basically means that whatever trouble you get into gets to me and I decide what happens after. Also I make the rules." he finished. Then Vincent grabbed a stack of papers and started reading off of one of them. "Now I'm going to read some of the rules to you. No one is allowed to leave the camp without my permission. No swimming into the lake after 6 p.m. . Lights are out at 10:30 p.m. every night and breakfast is at 8 a.m. every morning. No Walkmans are allowed." as he said that a lot of "aaww" and a couple "are you serious" could be heard. A few counselors started walking around with bags for the kids to put their Walkmans in. The siblings handed their Walkmans to the counselor hesitating a bit. "Don't worry you will get them back when you leave the camp" the girl counselor said. She was pretty. She had almost shoulder length brown hair and bangs and brown eyes.
"You can find the rest of the rules over there on the bullet board along with the lunch and dinner program" said Vincent. "Now let's talk about cabins. Girls will be paired with girls and boys with boys. No boys allowed into the girls cabins and vice versa. When you hear your name you'll head to the counselor who called you and you will share a cabin with them and other 4 or 5 kids" he finished.
Then names started being called here and there. Aaron has left his 2 sisters 1 minute into sorting. A couple minutes later Beverly heard her name and then Mara. Both girls were in the same cabin with the counselor who took their Walkmans. There was also another girl who the girls found out her name was Willow. She was about the same age as Beverly. She was short and had blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. "Okay you lot let's head to our cabin. We are in number 3" said the counselor who Mara found out was named Anna.
The four girls headed towards their cabin. It was one of the smaller cabins given the fact that they were only 4. It was pretty close to the mess hall but also close to the lake. Inside were 4 beds facing each other and a bathroom which was quite spacious. As the girls got inside a battle for the beds started, Mara getting the bed to the left of the door and Beverly getting the one in front of Mara's.
