"What does he want from me? This is complete utter bullshit! I haven't trained enough to fight Neil! He's the head elder's son, no doubt he's been learning stuff on the side. What do you think?" I turned over and faced Jude, his wet snout tickling my face.
"I know but still, Neil Dumphy? The guy's a god!" I sighed heavily, laying back down in the meadow. I had walked into the woods looking for Jude after school, needing a day off. He was excited to see me to say the least, and I him. I missed my little fur ball believe it or not. He licked my palms and led me about half a mile into the woods to our favorite spot, a field of wildflowers.
"Don't give me that look!" I frowned as his eyes went into thin slits, his head slightly tilting forward. "I've had a crush on the Neil Dumphy since we first moved here. How am I supposed to fight him when all I can do is stare at his beauty?"
Jude moved from beside my face, trotting away from me. I sat up and watched him trot away from me. Standing up, I followed him. He led me to a still creek, his gaze going from me and back to the water. Jude used his snout to point to the water, and then at me.
"What? It's water?" I asked him. He rolled his puppy eyes at me as he looked strenuously at the water, then back at me.
"It's water Jude," I deadpanned, pointing at it. He shook his head and ran away from me, but I didn't follow.
When he came back, there was a gorgeous flower in his mouth.
"What? It's a flower," I shrugged, looking at him oddly.
He narrowed his eyes at the flower.
"It is beautiful though," I smiled as I took it out of his mouth. He gave me a weird doggy grin when I said 'beautiful' and he took his snout and rubbed it on my pants leg.
"The flower's for me 'cause you think I'm beautiful?" I cooed, scratching a spot behind his ear softly. He shook his head 'no' as I removed my hand. I looked at him questionably, wondering what the hell he was talking about. He lifted his paw and pointed to the flower, then the water.
"You think the water is beautiful?" I asked him. He yelped and wagged his tail, telling me that I was right. He shook his head in a 'follow me' motion as he walked further down the creek's bank. Once he stopped (making sure that I was behind him) he pawed furiously at the water, making thousands of ripples in the water.
Confused, I waited until he stopped to question him. When he sensed my confusion, he turned around and used his snout to point at the ripples.
"I got it, okay the water was calm and still when we got here right?" I asked as lightbulb flickering on inside of my head.
Jude grinned as he nodded for me to continue.
"When you hit the water, all of those ripples changed the water's state from still to moving, disturbing the peace or... uh, give me a minute," I told him, sitting down beside the bank.
He said the water was beautiful and still, until he pawed at it. The water changed states, but what does beauty have to do with that? Beauty...
"Does the water symbolize beauty?" I inquired, the pitch of my voice inflicting towards the end.
He walked over to me and licked my palm. Okay so I know that much. He pawed at 'beauty', beauty can be changed? Beauty has ripples?
"I need help Jude," I sighed heavily, giving the puppy a 'puppy' face. He barked and jumped onto me out of no where, biting at my flesh playfully. We began to wrestle but as usual, I beat him.
