Stu, as John had predicted, stayed at the flat in Gambier Terrace whilst John and Ruby went to Ye Cracke, a pub that John claimed was the best in Liverpool for lively crowds.

As soon as they got into the pub, John took Ruby by the wrist and led her to the back of the pub and through a little door, which led to a room where there were just a few tables, all of them empty. John sat down in a booth in the very corner of the room and gestured for her to do the same.

"Is this where you bring all your girl friends, John?" Ruby teased him with a grin.

John snorted, "only very special girlies get brought out here, Rube." He paused, "drink?" She nodded. "Give us the money, then."

She blushed a furious red. Of course she didn't have any money that would be useful in 1960-something, but she couldn't tell him that. "Sure," she said in a haltering tone as she dug about in her plain tote bag, which had survived the journey back in time. She brought out her purse - coincidentally one from Stella McCartney which had been a gift from her dad just before she'd left for university. She tried not to let John see the little silver circular tag so she didn't have to explain anything, but she needn't have bothered - John was too busy picking at the edge of the table. "Oh, I don't -" Ruby's eyes widened as she finally got her purse open and saw what was inside.

More money than she had seen in her entire life.

As she spoke, John looked up and his eyes fell onto her purse. "Bloody Hell, Ruby!" He reached forward, "you're buying for the rest of the night!"

She nodded, feeling completely shocked as she took some notes out of her purse and handed them to him. "That okay?"

John nodded, "more than!"

"Um, keep the change," she told him, "I guess I have plenty to spare."

John nodded and left the room. Ruby's heart was pounding in her chest. Her family had never been rich - her mum and grandmother had worked all their lives, and her dad was only a partner in a law firm in London - they definitely weren't well off... where did she get all of that money from? The same place as her sketchbook had appeared from, she assumed.

Ruby wondered when she would wake up from her dream of being in the past. She didn't want to, but she knew that it was inevitable. Would she be there long enough that she should save her money or find a way to make some more?

And then she remembered what her father had always said to her.

With a good perspective on history, we can have a better understanding of the past and present, and thus a clear vision of the future.
