"Took you long enough," I said as I finally start the movie when Sam entered the room, hands full of bags of candy and chips.
We were having a movie night, so a trip to the supermarket was essential, and it was his turn to go.
"Scoot over," which I quickly did before he dived into bed to lay next to me. "Have you heard of the new girl in town?" he then asked."No, why? Did you?" I asked in return.
"I just talked to her in the supermarket. Her name is Riley," he stopped for a second then added, "She's cute. I got her Insta account."
I turned my attention from the movie to see he already searched up her profile and started scrolling through her pictures. She was pretty.
He looked at me, waiting for me to share my thoughts.
"She has nice," quick, think of something Lily, "eyebrows!" Amazing. Not weird at all.
But Sam didn't even notice. He just nodded along. "She goes to our school. I'll talk to her again tomorrow," he said before putting his phone down, wrapping an arm around me and focusing on the movie.
I couldn't do the same. I didn't know why this bothered me so much.
The last two days replayed in my head. Have I been reading too much into everything? Probably, since he already moved on to an another girl.
I'll forever be stuck in the best friend zone. I looked down to the only thing that will ever reciprocate my feelings: My bag of candy.
The next day, we saw Riley as soon as we walked into school. "Okay, should I talk to her now?" he asked nervously. Why is he nervous? He could literally have any girl from this school.
"Yes, go! Break a leg." And my heart.
