"Jeez, you got to stop scaring me. I was ready to use all the moves I learned from Karate kid on you," I tell Sam, who once again decided to make one of his surprise visits when I was home alone, fortunately without a black eye this time. "Hey, what's up?" I added, letting him in, now concerned as he remained silent.
It has been two weeks since Riley moved in, and her and Sam got closer than ever during it. She was also now a member of the "I'm better than everyone" group: the Baby-sitters Agency, and since I didn't want to hang out with that group, I distanced myself.
"My mom got an e-mail from Dad. Apparently, he wants to see us," he said bitterly.
I already knew about that. Kristy called a couple of hours ago. "Yeah, I know," I didn't really know what to say, "Heard you didn't take the news well."
Of course, he didn't. His father would do this every single time and bail on them the day they're supposed to meet him.
He clenched his jaw. "They think it'll be different this time, and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of giving him second chances," he snapped.
I raised his chin so we could lock eyes, "You have all the reasons to not want to meet your father. I respect that, and your family will too."
His face softened. "How come I'm not seeing you as much as usual lately?" He asked, not daring to break eye contact.
You're too busy with Riley.
"I was hoping you tell me," I muttered. "Do you want to sleep over? Talking to my mirror is not enough anymore, I need to interact with humans."
He chuckled, then said, "Hope you have enough food and won't starve us to death like last time cause you forgot to do grocery shopping."
"It's your lucky day, sir, because I couldn't survive with a candy shortage and I had to go to the supermarket today."
I got up from the couch and went to the kitchen to bring snacks while Sam turned on the TV and put on a Harry Potter movie because he knew I'd force to do so anyway.
"You know me too well," I yelled from the kitchen.
"Yes, I do. I know that you'd Avada Kedavra me before I even think of putting any other movie," he yelled back.
Well, I guess he's got a point.
After finishing the movie and having the millionth mental breakdown after Dobby's death, I rested my head on Sam's shoulder, suddenly feeling tired since I've been functioning the whole day on the two hours of sleep I got yesterday.
"Hey Sam, everything is going to be okay. Remember you have an amazing family that will always have your back and that," I added after a short pause, "You'll always have me."
He tightened his arm around my shoulder and whispered a "Thank you." before kissing the top of my head.
We both remained silent after that. I wondered why Sam would come to me instead of Riley, because he did just spend all his time with her these last two weeks. I wondered what he's thinking about right now. I wondered about so many things as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
