"Shit shit shit," I repeated as I got up from my bed and ran to my closet. I forgot to charge my phone yesterday so my alarm didn't ring and I'm now late for school. How amazing!

I quickly put on a hoodie that I have stolen from Sam, my black sweatpants and my favourite Airforces, put my hair up in a ponytail and sprinted down the stairs and out of the house.

As I was heading to my class, a friend waved at me in the hallway and I turned my head to wave back at her without stopping my jog. That's when I bumped into someone.

"What's wrong with you?", they yelled.

Great, as if my day wasn't bad enough.

Out of the 500 students that I could've bumped into in this school, I chose Riley.

"Sorry, I'm in quite a rush and I didn't see you there," I apologized. I moved forward but she stepped in front of me, making me stop again.

She looked me up and down in a repulsed way then said, "I don't know what Sam sees in you."

I scoffed, caught off guard by her words. "Excuse me?"

"If I were you, I would put some distance. I don't understand how Sam is friends with you. No offence," which she said in a sarcastic tone, "but you're really boring and you certainly don't look like the kind of person that Sam would want to hang out with."

I really need a coffee right now. My head can't handle this level of annoyance.

"And you do?"

"I know I do. Who is he spending all of his evenings with now? I hope you're not jealous though. In fact, I'm willing to bet that you have crush on him but unfortunately, you're stuck in the friend zone. Well, at least for now. I wonder how much time it'll be before you don't even make the list anymore," she said as she smirked.

Damn, I wonder if she practised this speech because she managed in few words to make my skin prickle with anger. However, I kept on a straight face and let her finish, not wanting to let her know that her words have any effect on me.

"I think Sam can decide for himself who to hang and not hang out with. I'm not doing this with you but you should definitely audition for a high school drama movie. You'd do great. Now, if you don't mind, I have a class to attend so get out of my way." I said calmly.

I turned one last time and flipped her off. Then I resumed my walk, wiping off the tears that I let fall after holding back for too long. When I finally arrived, I saw that Sam saved me a place next to him. I took a deep breath and went to sit.

"I knew that you were going to be late so I got you a coffee," he whispered as he handed a cup to me.

"You're an angel. I could kiss you right now," I whispered back as I admired my coffee, smiling.

He chuckled, "Maybe give me back my hoodie for a start."

"I don't know what you're talking about. This is definitely my hoodie. You must have it confused with another one you have," I denied.

"Yeah sure," Sam nodded, pretending to believe me.

"Mr Thomas, Ms Stone," the teacher called, "the test will be on this lesson so unless you want to fail, I advise you to stop what I'm sure is a very important conversation and follow."

"I need another coffee," I announced when we got out of class.

"But you just finished your second one," he objected.

"Exactly why I need a new one," I said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Doctors should study you, try to understand how you're still alive with this outrageous amount of caffeine." His phone buzzed. He opened it to read the message he received and then looked back at me, "It's Riley. I got to go. See ya later."

"See you," I mumbled, watching him walk away.

I almost forgot about my encounter with Riley until he reminded me of it again. Has she told him anything about me? He wouldn't stay friends with her if she did though. Right?

No, I'm sure of it. This is Sam. We've been best friends for as far as I remember. He wouldn't throw that away for a girl he knew for two months.

My phone lit up. I looked at the screen and saw that Sam sent me a message.

What the hell did you say to Riley this morning?

So as I was saying...
