Lorenzo wasn't lying when he said he was gonna keep showing up at Clubhouse. For the past month, every night I went to Clubhouse Lorenzo was waiting for me in the red room. Each night he gave me ridiculous amounts of money. I used all of it to pay most of my debts, the only one I had left to pay off was my student loans. A part of me felt bad taking his money but he always insisted.
I've been really enjoying getting to know him outside of work. Of course he would still flirt with me while at work but he stayed mostly professional. We got really close over the last month, you'd think we'd been friends for a long time.
Today was the last day of work for the week. I'm not going to Clubhouse so I have a relaxing weekend ahead of me.
'I miss you'
'Lorenzo you saw me at work an hour ago.'
'Open the door'
I dropped the phone on the bed and ran to the door. I felt like a teenager running to go see her crush. I slowed down when I reached to the door so it wouldn't seem like I was too excited.
"You really do miss me." I opened the door for him to enter.
"Seems like you did too, I heard you charging to open the door." He smiled. He leaned down to kiss my cheek. He handed me a bouquet of flowers along with a card attached to it.
"You weren't supposed to hear that. And thank you these are lovely."
"I guess I won't tell you about all the other times I heard you then." I hid my face in embarrassment. "I think it's cute how eager you are to see me."
"Shut up." I threw a throw pillow at him. We were now sitting in my living room. I put the flowers to the side so we could talk.
"I can think of a few ways you can shut me up Princess."
"I bet you can."
"There's no work next week, construction is being done on our floor."
"Oh, what's happening up there?" He still hadn't told me what they were doing.
"You'll see when they're done." I don't even know why I asked, every time I did he would be vague about it.
I really wanted to thank him before I forget. I don't think he knows it but he literally payed off all my loans and debt.
"Lorenzo," I held his hands in mine. "Thank you."
"For what?" He looked a bit confused.
"When I first started working for you, I was dead broke and on the verge of being homeless. Every interview I went to that week was a bust. Everyone wanted me to have experience, but I had just graduated so I didn't have any. You gave me a chance and I will forever be grateful to you. Chase and I have been best friends since college and when he found out I was getting evicted, he took me in. He was so mad at me when he first found out." I laughed at the memory. Chase visited one day when the landlord was dropping off the notice, and he gave me an earful about not asking for help. "I had a roof over my head but I was still struggling tremendously. I had got myself into so much debt, I had so many loans to pay off, my credit was horrible, until now. You helped me pay off almost everything and I'm so thankful for you and your kindness."
"Come here." He pulled me towards him and wrapped his arms around me. "Thank you for sharing that with me. I care about you a lot Samai and I told you, I will always help you in any way that I can. If you don't mind me asking, what other debts are you paying off?"
"Just my student loans," I lifted my head to look at him.
My lips grazed his and I froze. I didn't realize how close we were to each other. Lorenzo looked like he wanted to do more. I quickly straightened myself and put some space between us.
"I- um sorry."
"I'm not."
"Lorenzo!"
"You want me to lie?" He raised his brow.
I shook my head and looked at the flowers he brought me. The little white note was sticking out at the side and I remembered I hadn't looked at it. I picked it up and read what it said.
'Go on a date with me?'
I looked over to him, he was watching me intently. A big smile came to my face and I saw the corner of his lips twitch.
"Yes, I'll go on a date with you."
"Tomorrow sounds good?"
"Sounds perfect."
"Ew look at y'all being all cute and shit." Chase was leaning on the door frame of his room with a bowl of cereal in his hand. His hair was tousled and his robe was hanging off him.
"Chase." Lorenzo acknowledged him.
"Hi Lorenzo. Don't let me disturb you guys." He retreated back into his room.
A little bit later I fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up Lorenzo wasn't here anymore. I heard a voice in the kitchen whispering. I walked over to see who it was.
"No, he's only gonna get on my case about Allison, I've heard it a million times." Lorenzo sounded frustrated. This is the second time I've heard him say that name.
Who was she?
I was about to walk back to the couch when my foot hit the edge of the table.
"I gotta go." He hung up the phone and walked towards me.
"I didn't realize you were still here, I thought you woulda left after I fell sleep."
"I didn't want you to wake up alone. Chase left earlier." I checked the time and saw that it was after 10.
"You could've been home sleeping right now, but thank you for staying."
"I never get much sleep anyways. Besides, I'd rather be here with you." He came close and held my cheek.
That's it. I'm gonna marry him.
It still boggles my mind everyday. Why me? I'm just regular ole Samai, I'm sure he could find someone better for him than me.
"What's going on in that mind of yours?" He ran his thumb over my cheek.
I so badly wanted to tell him that I wanted to give this a try but I just couldn't get it out. Instead I just gave him a smile and wrapped my arms around him. I rested my head on his chest as he played with my curls. It felt so good to be held by him, so right. I didn't want to let go so I did the first thing that came to mind.
I pulled him to my bedroom. I sat him down and took his shoes off. I pushed him down gently so he was laying on my bed and I got in with him. I laid my head on his chest and draped my leg over his lower half.
"Is this okay?" I asked.
"Perfect." He kissed the top of my head. I played with his hair until I drifted off to sleep once again.
