DEDICATED TO MY BESTEST FRIEND WHO RECENTLY HAD HER BIRTHDAY— <3
I huffed as I heaved my luggage onto the platform. I couldn't use magic to make it lighter, nor my parents could help me.
I casually walked onto Platform 9 and 3/4, smiling as I read the big sign on the red train.
The Hogwarts Express
"Marinette!" A familiar voice called out excitedly, and I turned to grin at a red-haired girl who's hazel eyes were shining behind her black spectacles.
"Hey Alya!" I greeted back, shifting my luggage's weight into my other hand. Alya was my best friend, and we both were in the same house- Gryffindor. She had started as a first year just like me. In my few years at Hogwarts, I had found out that people who came from non-magic families weren't exactly welcomed by some who were from only magical descendants.
Those were called pure bloods, and I was a muggleborn. People who hated my blood called me a Mudblood though, and I learnt it the hard way. Thankfully, I had Alya by my side, and she was a half blood herself.
"Are you excited to start our fourth year?!" Alya said excitedly. "I've been digging in about this year, and guess what! Turns out there will be an exchange program with other schools, like Beauxbatons and Durmstrang!"
I perked up. "Are you sure?"
"Yes! Well, it's not confirmed, but I'm pretty sure. There will be a ball and stuff, girl!! Maybe," she nudged me playfully as we got into the train, and I stumbled, "You'll find a prince at the ball," she winked.
I rolled my eyes. It was no big secret that a few people had fancied me in my last three years at Hogwarts. People either ridiculed me or were jealous of me—or both— and I honestly couldn't care less. I wanted to study for Godric's sake! Prove all those snobby pure bloods wrong, that muggleborn's are amazing, as amazing as anyone else, and as powerful as well.
And by pure bloods, I mean people like Chloe Bourgeois.
That girl was a vengeful snake in green robes and blonde hair. For some reason, she hated me ever since I had first interacted with her. A while later I found out that she was the daughter of a very important Auror, and I cursed my luck. Ever since, she's found ways to make my life miserable, along with her sidekick Sabrina.
There were plenty of other muggleborns in the castle, it was a mystery why she only bullied me.
Alya said she was jealous of me. I had looked at her incredulously then, but now that I think about it...
"Excuse me, watch where you're going, Dupain-Cheng!" A shrill voice broke my thoughts.
Speak of the devil...
"Chloe," I said monotonously. If she could just move, Alya and I would be able to find our seats and get set for the long train ride ahead of us. Of course, Chloe would do no such thing cause she lives— no thrives— to be an inconvenience for me.
"Oh, Césaire, your hideous red hair is disgusting as always!" Chloe snarked. I sighed. At this point, she wasn't even trying to be witty.
"Wow, Chloe, I totally care about your opinion," Alya rolled her eyes.
Chloe narrowed her eyes in anger, because according to her, people should care about her opinion, or else you're a slimy toadstool.
"And Dupain-Cheng," she turned to me, and I braced myself for the insulting words, "Nice sweater."
