A/N:
Heyo, few notes about the story as usual!

-don't like it don't read it ❤️

-this is sort of a prequel to my story Instincts [Roronoa Zoro x Reader]; it has the same "character" in terms of backstory, but in an alternate timeline and story. You do not need to read that one to understand this one.

-the reader character will be non-binary/gender neutral; pronouns will be they/them instead of she/her or he/him (in Instincts it was female reader, so that I could write Sanji more clearly).

-and that's it, enjoy!

Ps. I enjoy reading comments :>

"Captain!"

The white polar bear Mink, alarmed and nervous for whatever reason Law knew was most likely nonexistent, ran up to him.

The surgeon looked up from his book, annoyed at the interruption.

"There's a Marine ship up there!" Bepo reported.

"We're far down enough that they won't notice us." His eyes returned to the book, brushing off this distraction as per usual.

It had been a quiet day today, and Law intended to keep it that way. It was difficult enough as it were with the unwanted attention gained after the Sabaody incident.

"Sorry...." Bepo turned to leave, depressed at his captain's lack of concern. He was stopped by two others that came in hurriedly.

"There doesn't seem to be anyone in there!"

"We saw before we came further down. It's like it's completely empty!"

Law sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, looking back up at Shachi and Penguin.

The crew was in the middle of the ocean late at night, and he supposed an empty Marine ship was rather strange. Law finally stood, setting his book down and grabbing his sword.

"Fine, let's take a look."

The submarine made it to the surface quickly and cautiously. As the others had said, the Marine ship was seemingly empty. As Law teleported himself aboard the ship, he confirmed that there were no sailors, captain or navigator. There didn't seem to be anything useful that he could take, and the ship was rather small for a Marine ship.

There were, however, a few splotches of blood on the ground that he spotted in the moonlight, but no apparent bodies from which they came from. He spotted a trail of blood leading to a closed door, fresher than the others. As he followed the trail and opened the door, he gripped his sword, ready to cut anything that popped up.

He came upon an unexpected sight: a person tied to a chair, head down and a collapsed body on the ground behind them.

It was difficult to tell in the darkness, but Law could make out that neither wore Marine outfits and the body on the ground seemed dead, while the one in the chair was about to be, with little response and covered in blood.

They were probably pirates, Law presumed. Perhaps tortured by Marines. He knew enough about them to know that many would do such a thing.

He frowned, not sure what to do with them. Helping them would be tedious, and they didn't seem to be able to return the favor. He shrugged to himself, turning to leave. This was none of his business. He already had too much on his plate, dealing with his plans for Doflamingo.

He then halted at the thought of that bastard, and sighed. He turned back to the prisoner and put his hand on the hilt of his blade, deciding to at least end their misery.

"Trafalgar D. Water Law."

Law stopped and tensed up hearing his full name, eyes widening. He stared at the person who coughed up that name.

"How do you know my full name," Law demanded, quickly walking up closer to them. Upon closer inspection, he realized that most of the blood on them was not theirs, but rather someone else's that got on them. However, he could see that there were some slashes on them  made from a knife or sword of some sort, and there seemed to be some kind of acid around and in their eyes.

The person snapped their mouth shut when he spoke, shaking. Were they afraid?

When Law unsheathed his sword, they flinched at the sound, confirming his suspicions. He frowned, reluctantly cutting the ropes away to free them.

"You will explain later," Law said firmly. He put their arm around his shoulder, then noticed a sort of long wooden rod held tightly in their hands that slipped from the dead body's. As Law's hand brushed against it, he tutted, feeling his energy slip away. "Is that seastone that rod is made of? Keep it away from me."

The person was silent apart from their grunts of pain. Law quickly used his fruit ability to transport them both back to the submarine before the person fell unconscious.

"Captain, how did it go?"

"What did you find?"

"Who is that?"

Law started barking orders at the crew, ignoring their questions. He needed to clean the wounds and fix this person's eyes before they get infected, and get some answers to his many questions as soon as possible.
