“ESPERANZAAAAAAAAAAA,”a voice screamed out as I entered the common area. I looked around, knowing the only person who would call my name out that loud was Paige. I spotted her by her knit group of friends, and waved at her motioning I was walking to get my schedule. As I walked by a group of people to stand in line to receive my schedule, a hand tapped me on the shoulder.

I turned to see it was Jordan and my heart skipped a beat. Damn, he was amazing looking. He was wearing a simple outfit: a white T-shirt, dark jeans, and white and black Nikes. I looked up and he smiled at me, revealing the straight white teeth I adored and envied.

“Hey A-Girl, how has your summer been,”he asked, making me wince at the thought of him not knowing my actual name.

“It's been good thanks. And yours?”

“It's been good. I missed having to boss everyone though,”he said back, making me chuckle at his comment.

A voice screamed out his name, and he turn and waved at the girl who was jumping up and down waving at him. A beautiful girl, I took notice at. “Well I guess I should get going now. See you at the office,” he said referring to the room we all work at. Its a little joke between everyone that works on the paper since it was just a dingy room down at the basement.

“Yeah bye, see you later,”I said back, giving him a small smile. He scurried away and I watch him go the girl. She hugged him and started talking to him rapidly, making him throw back his head and laugh. I wish I was able to talk to him without getting shy. Maybe this year I can somehow work on it I thought to myself.

After receiving my schedule and scanning at it quickly, I saw it said:

Period 1: English 11

--- HOMEROOM ---

Period 2: Chemistry

Period 3: Algebra Two

Period 4: US History

--- SECOND LUNCH ---

Period 5: Newspaper

Period 6: Physical Education

Ughhh I had PE again. Well it was better that I had it last hour then first like last year. After locating where Paige was I walked up to her, waving my schedule in the air.“What classes did you get this year Paige,”I asked. After comparing our schedules, we both saw we had English and PE together.

“ Well at least we can both complain about having to run a mile together again,”Paige joked.

I nodded my head, thinking about how last year we both were the last ones to cross the finishing line purposely. It was one of the hottest days of the summer and Ms. Sinner still wouldn't let us stay inside the cool aired building. Instead, she made us do the mile run around the track for part of our final test. Paige came up with the idea in the locker room for everyone to walk together and protest against us having to run. Everyone agreed, saying this will definitely teach Ms. Sinner a lesson in being so cruel. However, when it came time to do it everyone started running the laps. Everyone but Paige and I that is. We both had gotten a D in that part of the final I recollected.

“HELLO!”Paige shouted, startling me out of my train of thought.

“I'm sorry, what were you saying?”I said.

She sighed impatiently. “I was trying to tell you that I was able to grab both of us a date for this Saturday night! I was talking to Jim Reynolds and he said one of his friends was free for the night and was totally hot,”she exclaimed, pleased with herself.

I groaned, knowing if anything I should have expected this out of Paige on the first day of school.“But I thought we agreed we were going to rent a couple of movies from Blockbuster and have a sleepover at my house,”I said, already knowing it was a lost cause for me.
