Religion is such a contraversial topic because most parents want their kids to have the same beliefs as you were raised with. The thing is, you can't expect your child to believe the same things you do. Finding out what religion (or no religion at all) they want to follow is part of them wanting to find their individualty. It's okay to raise your child with your beliefs and morals, but also give them the opportunity to discover what it is they believe in themselves. The basis of most religions is mutual respect and love, so whatever they choose, they've got what you have already taught them and what is still left to learn; chances are, they might come back to the religion they were raised with.
