The car ride was mostly quiet, with the occasional small talk from the man upfront, though he had stopped halfway through, the awkward silence from the two in the back made it impossible to speak through.
They arrived at sunset, the university bustling with people as many poured in. Their annual dinner party had elites from around the country visiting the historic college, bringing their lovers, or close friends to celebrate and discuss. Eden had never cared for those things, though Lalo would be delighted to attend one, as he held one at the casino every year.
The car pulled over at the roundabout in front of the building, parking in a reserved spot. The driver got out, before opening the door for Eden, and Orion. Several thank you's were exchanged, before the two had headed into the building, toward the auditorium.
"You remember your fake name right?"
"Yes, I do, Miss Madeliene Parisot." Orion chanted mockingly at Eden, staring at the floor as he walked
"Good, Mr Gabriel Dautrich. Now, be a good boy. We are here for one specific thing. Not to start a big fight. I assume you understand. Now, pick up the pace. We need to get good seats for the dinner."
The two walked down the many hallways, before stopping at the huge auditorium. It was beautifully decorated, with a statue standing tall in the middle, looking over the many seats. At the end of the gigantic room was a stage, with men and women getting ready to present and discuss ideas, different podiums with microphones set up on the podiums, speakers rehearsing notes. A big buffet had been set up to the side, hosting many types of food.
The man of the night, however, stood tall at the front most podium, a suit made of the fanciest looking materials. He looked, in raw essence, powerful. The man practically had invented some of the concepts of modern day magic used in the world. He was perhaps the most important man of the South.
Yet, here he stood, in front of the two trying to cheat the very man out of one of his prized students. But first, they had to wait for the event to start. Idle chatter filled the air, as Eden shuffled to find a seat, Orion following close at her heels.
They sat down, and the process had begun. The room quieted down as the lights dimmed, and infront stood Professor Virgil. He looked over the crowded room, before clearing his throat, and beginning his speech.
"Tonight is a very important night. I welcome you all to Saint Vonn Clair, and I hope you enjoy your stay. I humbly apologize for the long travels some of you had to make, but me and my staff are very proud to have you all hear. But enough of formalities..." The man spoke, passion seeping from his words, though the two were already bored out of their mind.
They looked throughout the room, trying to distract themselves, before the one thing had piqued their interest.
"...and through the years, we have managed building these new, abstract magic types, even some bordering on the plans of fate itself. I have one of my students to demonstrate for you all. We've worked very hard on these concepts and plannings. Please welcome, Amora, to the stage."
The crowd clapped and cheered, before a small, raggedy girl had stepped to the front. She had bright, pink hair, accompanied with long, dark clothing, with books, bags, and tools strapped all the way around her body. She smiled into the microphone, before she began speaking. Eden and Orion had their target. Now, all they needed to do was to get her.
The pair stood up, slowly edging their way around to the sides of the stage, exchanging greetings and formalities with those who they had passed by. The speech was almost over. It was their time to strike. They exited the room through the side door, and made their way through the small corridors, before stopping at a bathroom.
