"Inei, wake up you're going to be late for school." says a distant voice coming from the other side of the door. A young man wakes up and in an aggravated voice says "Ugh, Do I have to go today, mom?" The door slams open as an older but still slightly young looking women stares at Inei with annoyance. "You can't keep doing this. You're falling way behind in classes, at this rate you won't be able to graduate." says the women. Inei sighs before looking at the women "I know mom but-" He gets interrupted by his mom "But nothing, I don't want to hear it. You get up and get ready for school, I refuse to have my son fail his classes. It's okay to be afraid of not passing but sitting here doing nothing about it is unacceptable." She says in an angry stern tone as she walks away. Inei gets up and sighs as he looks at himself in the mirror "It's not failing i'm afraid of" he says in a soft voice as he gets dressed. He walks downstairs and walks to the door as his mom stops him. "Inei, Please try do your best I don't like being hard on my own kids but I do it for your own good." she says staring at the stove. Inei stares at his mom with a shocked gaze, as he thinks to himself "Mom never has been happy since dad left, she probably doesn't even know that i've seen how depressed she gets when she thinks we're asleep" he smiles and says "Don't worry mom I promise do to my best for you" he leaves and closes the door his mom having a slight smile on her face. Inei makes his way to school as he hears the school bell in the distance "Aw crap I'm going to be so late" Inei says as he starts to sprint. He bumps into a girl as they both drop their stuff. "Awh man I am so sorry" Inei says in a hurried panic as he frantically grabs his stuff. "It's okay" she says in a quiet voice as she grabs her stuff too. Inei runs as the girl stares at him "Hmm, what a weirdo." she says quietly as she follows behind. Inei gets to the school and walks to his class. "You're late Mr. Kamiyama" says the teacher staring at Inei with a glare. "I'm sorry sir I overslept" says Inei walking slowly to his desk. "Just sit down and save the excuses." Inei sits down and opens his back pack pulling out a notebook and skimming at the hand writing before gasping. "This isn't my backpack" he murmurs quietly to himself, embarrassed as a knock is heard at the door. The teacher approaches the door and opens it as a young teenage girl says to the teacher "Uh, Is there a Inei Kamiyama here? I was told I can find him here." Inei looks at her and recognizes her as the girl he bumped into before he arrived to school. "Oh, Yes he's over there. Mr. Kamiyama come here." the teacher says staring at Inei. "Huh..Oh r-right." Inei says packing up his stuff and walking over to the girl. "In our hurry we got our bags mixed up, It was pretty hard to decipher your name with your messy hand writing, Inei." says the girl as Inei stares at her with a glare of annoyance. "Oh shut it, your hand writing isn't perfect either!" he gets more embarrassed handing her bag to her. "Thank you, Inei." she says smiling and throwing a slight giggle as she hands Inei his stuff, she walks away and Inei walks back to his seat. "Alright class so today-" Inei starts to daydream drowning out the teachers voice the only thing in his mind being "What was that girl's name?" The girl walks down the hallway clutching her bag and smiling as she whispers to herself "A weirdo and a dummy. You're still the same loveable idiot." she giggles to herself before running to her class. Inei is still daydreaming and zones out after hearing his teacher scream his name "Inei!!" he blurts out scaring Inei out of his trance. "Inei, after the bell you stay seated we need to speak." The school bell rings and the students all leave, all except Inei who walks to his teacher with a nervous expression on his face. "Y-Yes sir?" The teacher looks at Inei and sighs before speaking, "Listen Inei, school is almost over you don't have long before graduation. We both know your grades aren't the best either, Inei I know life has been rough for you but don't use school as an excuse to get away from your problems." Inei looks down sighing "I'm sorry Mr. Sato, I don't use school as an excuse if anything more problems happen at school than they do at home." Sato looks at Inei with a concerned expression "Bullies? Is it about your father?" Inei looks up at him with a shock look that quickly turns to anger. "Woah, Inei calm down I don't mean any disrespect. I was told about it by your mother, she only wants what's best for you. I wholeheartedly agree with her. I need you to rely on me." Inei's anger expression fades to a gloomy expression "R-Right. Yeah it's about my dad, well more like my family in general. My parents aren't the richest and after my dad left us or you know. It's been difficult to focus on class." Sato looks at Inei as he sighs "I get it Inei but falling behind on work isn't going to help anyone, I can get you an appointment with our therapist and see how he can help. As for me I can help and make sure you don't flunk. All you have to do is put trust in us, now go on Inei go home and be safe." Inei bows and walks away thinking of what Sato told him, he walks outside noticing the girl who had his stuff. "Oh hey it's you. Lose anything else?" Inei says chuckling a bit. She looks at Inei and smiles "No, I was looking for you. I wanted to thank you for not messing up my pages. I for sure was ready to see pages missing." Inei looks at her shocked as he thinks to himself "Did she really wait just to say thanks? Why not wait for tomorrow to say that?" Inei laughs "You're welcome um I never got your name." She looks at him and stops smiling "It's Akari." Inei notices her sudden change in expression and looks away "Akari huh, I had a childhood friend with that nam-" Inei looks at her as his bottom lip begins to quiver, Akari looks at him and smiles "It took you this long to recognize me?" Inei unable to get any words out hugs Akari tightly and manages to say "I'm glad you're okay." That day, exactly 10 years ago I lost my best friend, I was awoken from screams outside. I saw a fire consuming my best friend's house my eyes widely open, I rush in to grab my parents not knowing that my father had already ran to our neighbor's house. Panicked and afraid all I could do was watch hoping to see my friend. "Any survivors?" "No, not a single one." "Hey wait! Here's one a little girl!" The firemen exchange looks as a younger Inei runs towards the body "Akari!!" he begins to scream her name crying as he's being pulled back by the firemen. "She doesn't look in good shape, I don't know if she'll make it." "We can't just leave her here. She's still showing signs of life, she will probably die in the ambulance but atleast we would have tried." The firemen whisper to each other as Inei stares with a scared look, the flashback ending. "Back then I thought I lost you forever, I remember not being able to sleep for days, eat for days. I would get excited hearing door knocks hoping it was you to drag me away from this nightmare." Inei says with tears rolling down his cheek. Akari looks at him giving him a slight smile before wiping away his tears "I'm sorry Ini. Believe me I wanted to come see you as soon as I recovered but you moved away and I was put in a group home. Aftet I woke up the following day in pain from the burns I was told how the fire started and who survived." Akari starts to clench her fist tearing up, Inei hugs her hiding her face in his chest "I was told it was a gas leak." Akari sighs "It wasn't a gas leak..Inei how much do you know?" Inei stares at Akari shocked "N-Not much just what my mom told me." "Inei, maybe it's best you knew the truth. Tell your mom." Akari says as she kisses his cheek walking away. "I'll see you tomorrow dummy" Inei waves at her and smiles placing his hand on his cheek, as he begins to walk home too. He arrives home entering and walking to his room, sitting on the edge of the bed clutching his fists as tears flow down his cheek. He slowly lays on his bed "Akari Yasu. I'm truly glad you're alive and I have so much to talk to you about." Inei thinks to himself as he smiles letting more tears flow down. His mom knocks on the door "Inei honey are you okay?" "Yes mom I'm okay. Never better" His mom smiles and walks to her room. Inei drifts to sleep before being awoken by frantic knocks at his door, he gets up and opens it "Mom? What's wrong?" Inei's mom looks at him with tears as she points to the T.V. Inei approaches the T.V. "For anyone just tuning in, I would like to say, I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart. Starting tomorrow we only have approximately 7 days left on Earth before a meteorite collides with it, destroying everything. I would use these last days to reconnect with loved ones. It's been a honor to give you all morning news. Goodbye." The panicked anchorman on the T.V. grabs a gun and places it on his head as he smiles, he pulls the trigger as the News channel connection is abruptly cut only showing a "Please stand by" screen. Inei and his mom share worried terrified expressions as they hug each other. The next morning Inei get dressed and walks over to his mom and gives her a hug before walking outside, his mom smiling slightly as her lip quivers clenching a knife in her hand before dropping it in the sink. Inei bumps into Akari as they both look at each other, both tearing up as they both give each other a tight hug. "We just finally reunited and this happens" Inei says fighting back his tears. Akari wipes his cheek and slightly smiles "I know, I always was unlucky with my timing wasn't I?" she tries to laugh as she breaks down hugging him tightly. They both walk towards school as they notice everyone else from school walking away from school, Akari stops one of them "Hey what's going on?" "With the news that happened yesterday schools are closed to let students be with their parents." The student says as he walks away sulking. Akari and Inei stare at each other as they both walk back and head towards the bench and sit down. "7 days huh..?" Akari says looking down. Inei nods and looks at Akari "Before those days come I have a confession to make, ever since we were kids I've-" "Had a crush on me?" Akari interrupts Inei smiling slightly with a slight blush on her cheek. Inei looks at her embarrassed "You knew?" "I've always known, you dummy and I feel the same way." Akari says as Inei looks at her with a determined expression. "7 days Akari, Let's make those 7 days count as my girlfriend. Let me give you the best week ever. I promise." Akari looks at him shocked and turns red "Yes, I'd like that Inei." She says as she smiles leaning her head on his shoulder. They both walk home promising each other to make each other happy. Inei opens his door to his house "Mom I'm home!" he walks in and his eyes open widely he gasps and looks at his mom hunged with a note on the countertop. "...Mom...why..?"
