Our last days on Earth

Day 2

Inei stares at the note and at his mother's corpse with tears as his voice breaks unable to speak he slowly opens the note as he reads the note. "Inei if you're reading this then it means I'm no longer here, I'm sorry my son I tried to be strong for the both of us but I wasn't able to live with the guilt. I love you my son and I wish I had the guts to tell you what really happened in the fire that hurt your friend or what really happened to your father. I wish I was braver and could've said it to you in person but I'm not. The fire was not caused by a gas leak, your father isn't dead either. The fire was caused by your father who was a drug addict when our neighbors refused to sell him any more drugs your father confused the houses and burned down the wrong one. Your father not knowing what to do he ran away but was later caught, we had to move to avoid your father in case he was ever released. Your sister who I love dearly fell into depression and I was unable to stop her from running away as of now I know nothing of where she is but not a day goes by that I don't think about her. I tried to be strong for you my dear Inei but with the news we heard today I couldn't handle it anymore. Inei don't blame yourself for this Im proud of the person you've turned out to be and I'll save you a spot in heaven, if I'm able to see you there again..Love mom." Inei clenches the note with tears dripping down his face, he slowly reaches for his phone dialing a number. "Emergency services how can I help you?" Inei tries to speak "Um.." "Sir? Are you okay?" The operator concerned asks again "Are you okay sir? Do you need an ambulance?" Inei starts to cry before muttering out "Yes.." "Okay hun, stay on the line with me we'll get an ambulance to your location right away. What's your name?" "I-Inei.." "Hey Inei, it's going to be okay my name's Emiko." "Ok-" Inei manages to say a few words before the ambulance arrive he hangs up walking over to the door before he collapses he's caught by one of the EMT. "Pure shock overwhelmed him. This is the 8th call already." "What do you expect the world's ending in 7 days well more like 5 now right?" "Yeah but wouldn't you want to spend those days with your loved ones?" "Well what if you don't have loved ones? What if you have regrets? I'm not saying what they're doing is the right thing I'm just saying it's what I would do if I had those regrets or nothing to show for." "Even with regrets I would still want to be with my family instead of being stuck here helping these people wondering how my own family is doing." "It sucks but it's our job we can't do much about it" A voice is heard behind the two EMT's "I-Inei..? What's going on here?" The two of them stare at the young girl "Oh this your boyfriend? We got a call about a disturbance here, we weren't sure what it was until we got here." "You know we can't tell everyone what's happening." "You think I care about regulations right now? Anyways seems the mom killed herself and it was too much shock for the kid to handle and he well fainted." "What's your name anyways? We'll need it for our reports" The young girl mutters out "Akari Yasu." "Alright thank you, listen we need to examine the body if it's okay with you we'll hand him to you for a bit before we take him too." She nods her head as she holds Inei she places her hand on his cheek she slowly kisses his forehead before whispering in a soft voice "My sweet Inei I'm so sorry." The two EMT's begin to examine the body handing the note over to Akari placing Inei's mom in a body bag zipping it up they place her on a stretcher they then approach Akari. "Alright Ms. Yasu now we need to take the young boy in too to make sure he's okay too." Akari stares at him "Is it okay if I go too?" "Normally, I'd say no but I can tell he means a lot to you. Plus most of our regulations are thrown out the window as of now." The two EMT's place Inei on a stretcher loading both of them on separate ambulances Akari gets on the ambulance with Inei as the ambulance drives to the hospital. The ambulance arrives at the hospital they take Inei and Akari to a room they check his vitals and then leave Akari with Inei. "Inei, I'm sorry this happened" she opens the note Inei's mom left him she gasps as she stares at Inei she holds his hand as Inei wakes up. "Where am I?" He says with a soft tone he looks at his hand then up at Akari. "Hey Inei, you're in the hospital" Inei groans as he gets up "Hospital? Why am I her- mom where's my mom?" Akari looks at Inei with a sad expression on her face she softly speaks "Inei your mom is gone." Inei stares at Akari before laying down "I wish that was a dream. Why didn't she just tell me? Why didn't I piece it together?" "Inei your mom said not to blame yourself, I can't answer those questions but I wish I could." "You read the note?" Inei looks at Akari's hand as she clenches the note "Yes I did I saw the ambulance at your house and got worried, I saw what happened. Your mom isn't the first case this day." "So a lot of people are just ending it all-" Inei clenches his sheets, tears falling from his face as Akari does her best to comfort him. "The world we once knew is gone Inei, I may not know what's in store for us next but I do know I won't let you face them alone. You made a promise to me 7 days." Inei smiles as he wipes his tears.
