I wanted to talk about one of my characters from ATOTF. Benny.
Benny's real name is Beatrice McAllister. She's a tomboy and a sarcastic bitch that swears more then a drunken sailor if I'm honest, even though she has the characteristics to be the school plastics (That's the actress I cast in the picture). Blonde hair, Blue eyes and buxom body. She was inspired by Lennon in 'Not all Blondes do Backflips' by CrayonChomper (you can find this book in my reading list of good books. I suggest you read it, it's awesome.)
However as she kind of developed as a character she changed. And in the part where I "got rid" of her character, and put a little bit of it of her spirit in a old lady, I put in the Authors note that is wasn't sure what she'd do if I kept her around and that I didn't trust her.
I know, she's my character I can manipulate her blah blah blah. Benny is one of my 'free-spirit characters'. They tend not to last long or they go a little sour and ruin everything. It's almost like I have to manipulate the story around the character, and that character does whatever they like. I write them in a way that I don't really pay attention to how the story line will effect the character but how the characters effects the story.
Basically instead of thinking 'How should I make this character react?' I think 'How would this character react?'
Example
How should I make Amalie react?'
How would Benny react to this?'Understand?
I have written many short story's where the free spirit has just gone completely insane and so has the story. Sometimes my teachers like it, other times, not so much.
Anyway I felt like I needed to explain her a little bit. Explain myself a little.
