As you gazed into the mirror, you curled your lip upwards and furrowed your eyebrows in disgust. You were an absolute mess. Knotted hair, dark, noticeable eyebags, (more noticeable than normal, anyways,), blood-shot, puffy eyes. You sighed heavily in exasperation as you clasped onto the sides of your porcelain sink, your knuckles slowly turning white as you tightened your grip.
"Jesus, Y/N, get yourself together..." you murmured to yourself, running your hands through your H/C hair, untangling the knots, albeit rather slowly and painfully.
You let your head drop, tears beginning to stream down your cheeks, your chest heaving with silent sobs. You sniffled loudly and pressed the heel of your palm to your eyes, wiping away all remaining tears. You hated this feeling of vulnerability, this feeling of weakness. It made you feel fragile, like you were a porcelain doll who could shatter at any given moment. You were disgusted by yourself.
A previous greatly-renowned Grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer, reduced to nothing but ashes, after a mere breakup. You had detached yourself from the sorcery community ever since the breakup, and had been shutting out the rest of the world ever since. Your favorite tessen still hung above your bed, and still leaked fair amounts of cursed energy. No matter how much this reminder of the world you once lived in aggravated you, you couldn't bring yourself to remove it from your wall. It held too much meaning and too much importance. Unlike the burnt piles of clothing that had once belonged to your ex that now lay in a heap in the forest. That was a good decision on your part. He always smelled of cheap cologne anyways. Yet, as you pondered this fact, for some reason, you had always adored that scent. Maybe it was less of the scent itself and more of the fact that you had just been so hopelessly in love.
You supposed that love did have that strange effect. Your perspective changes in the blink of an eye. You see things you once hated in a whole new light, and things you once liked have been pushed aside, due to your eagerness to please your partner.
You had always been naive in that way. Never listening to your own thoughts or feelings. Just a lost little puppy, afraid and alone, looking for anyone to guide the way. But... it was almost as if... that sense of naivete was fading. Like maybe this breakup had brought good things, too.
Slowly lifting your head and looking into the mirror, you realized something different about yourself. Not the blotchy, tear-stained cheeks, nor the puffy eyes and runny mascara. You felt and seemed... wiser. Perhaps some of that blissful ignorance still lingered, the childish hope that maybe, just maybe, he was still in love with you. But you felt more experienced. More knowledgeable.
It may have just been the light, but you could swear that there was a twinkle in your eyes that hadn't been there before. A twinkle only gained after knowing the crushing feeling of heartbreak, but seeing the light that symbolized new beginnings.
In your head it sounded cringey, and would most likely become even more so if these thoughts were to be voiced, but it made sense.
You needed to get over him. He was gone. The chances he would want you back were slim to none. So, it was time to stop moping. Well, maybe not yet. But pretend that you weren't moping and try to have fun.
And what do we do in times of need?
We drink.
A/N: I apologize for the short chapter! The next chapters will all be considerably longer, hopefully double or triple the length of this one. (This chapter was around 600 words.) I hope you all enjoyed and will continue reading! <3 (Also, I'll probably just be adding some of my favorite pieces of official art, so I hope you guys love those as well. :D)
