Demi's POV
-Three months later-
"Alright, Demi. Be cool. Everything's gonna work out." I say to myself to calm down.
My family's coming over to my house for dinner and I wanted everything to go smoothly. I feel like I haven't gotten much time with them lately. I mean, I've been juggling my job, my friends, and my significant other for a while.
Although things with Y/n have been great, I can't neglect my family any longer. I need some balance in my life. I can't just show up at my mom's house out of the blue. I needed something coordinated, so what better way to do that than have a small dinner? I figured that it would be a good start.
The doorbell rings and I rush to the door to see my mother and two sisters, with huge grins on both of their faces. I returned the grin before greeting them.
"Hey! Oh, my gosh. We haven't seen you since the backyard party." Madison says, hugging me tightly.
"I know it's been a while. Where's dad?" I asked, looking around for him.
"Don't worry. He's in the car, looking for parking. He just wanted us to go ahead."
"Okay, come on in," I said as I invited them in.
They walked in, taking their seats at the table. I closed the door and turned to go join them.
"It smells good in here, Dems," Madison says as she adjusts herself in her seat.
"Why, thank you." I smiled back at her.
I remained standing near the table in case anyone needed anything or if my dad came to the door.
"Is Sirah coming or is it just us?" Mom asked.
"Nah, it's just y'all."
"So I'm guessing that the lovely lady that you've told us about won't be making it today?" Mom asked as she leaned forward on the table.
"Uh..." I responded in disbelief.
The doorbell rang and I had a feeling of relief washing over me.
"Oh-- that must be dad. Why don't I go and get that?" I said as I slowly backed up toward the door.
I opened the door to see my stepfather standing there with a smile and open arms for a hug.
"Hey, honey!" he said as he threw his arms around me, tightly embracing me for a while.
His arms felt good to have around me. It was a tight hug, but not tight enough to hurt me.
"Hey, dad," I replied, hugging him back,
"How's my little lamb doing?" He asks as he gently pats my head.
"I'm doing great. The others are waiting at the table. Please, come on in." I say as I step back for him to come into the house.
"Oh, goody," he says as he walks in.
I closed the door and went to join the rest of them. I was dreading if they were going to start asking questions about Y/n and our relationship. Of course, I want to tell my family about my new girlfriend but I don't want her to feel like she should have to water herself down to whatever my parents should perceive her to be when they meet her.
"So, what's new with everyone?" I asked as I placed the napkin on my lap.
My sisters started eating and one of them decided to swallow her food and answer the question.
"I think someone likes me at school," Madison says as she wipes her mouth.
"Oh? Am I gonna have to look him up and make sure he's not a bad influence? What's his name?" I chuckled.
