I sit in the luxurious taxi, on my way to Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah. The bustle of the people in the lively capital of Cairo puts a smile on my face. Such a contrast to the cold and almost lifeless aura in northern Iowa.
Only thing I'll have to deal with here is the inevitable tan I'll be getting.
As if my olive skin isn't tan enough, but the heat is always welcome after spending weeks in a blizzard.
"Are you comfortable, miss?"
I turn to face the taxi driver. He has typical Arab make features, save for the next to no facial hair and eyes that are a rare, light shade of sky blue.
The cherry on top is his sexy accent.
"Yeah, sure."
"I'm Omar, by the way."
I smile at him from the rearview mirror, despite my confusion at his friendliness. "Danielle."
He smiles back at me and silence reigns once again.

Apparently, Omar is more of a sociable gentleman than I thought. Not only does he help the bus boy carry my luggage up to my room on the thirteenth floor, he offers to stay and help me unpack the luggage I wouldn't mind him seeing.
"Do you need anything else, miss?"
A smile graces my lips at the attention he's showering on me. Maybe I'm loving it because I haven't had someone care about me for so long. Not since the massive deaths of half of my family members.
"I'm fine, thanks. You can go now."
From then on, I see Omar everywhere, doing everything. He waits at the Kababgi Restaurant, helps room service get my food to my suite and do my laundry, and is always around when I go down for a swim.
I have to say, I'm flattered by the attention.
And my feelings deepen substantially when he kisses me on my balcony tonight.
I give in completely after that.
As we lay on my bed at 2:30a.m., Omar's strong arms wrapped tightly around my arms and waist, he leans in and whispers what I think is the most romantically disturbing thing I've ever heard.
"I love you, Danielle. Remember, we're soul tied."
