**

It's been three months since Omar came to Iowa.

He has suggested we move in together, or more accurately, that I move into his house.

A house I had no idea he owned until last night.

Omar's image in my head keeps getting distorted. First, he's a super nice taxi driver and bus boy. Then, he's here suddenly a loaded businessman trying to settle in Iowa with me.

My gut stirs for the billionth time in three months. Something's wrong, I keep wondering, but I have no idea what. Or maybe I do, but my brain can't seem to dissect it yet.

"Hellooo, sis," Lena sings and snaps her fingers in my face.

I blink and see Lena's annoyed expression as she desperately tries to get the elevator doors to stay open.

It's like this every other day at the company. Me daydreaming about anything and nothing.

Two seconds pass and Omar appears in front of me and Lena.

"We need to talk," he hisses and drags me away almost immediately.

Anger bubbles in me and I shove his hand away. Omar slowly turns and gives me a bone chilling glare, then my gut stirs.

This time, my brain knows exactly what this is about, and it gives me one advice.

Run.

*

My hands shake and tremble as if electricity is being passed through it. My eyes scan the entire building frantically as I run and run. What was a full bustling environment minutes ago is now completely deserted. Not a single soul in sight, and I don't hear any sound except the stomping of my sweaty feet against the cold tiled floor.

"Danielle," Omar sings from nowhere.

I run faster, curving through desks and hallways.

"Danielle."

My feet slap harder against the floor, and my chest gets heavier. Sweat flows down my head to my cleavage and down to my lower abdomen. My curly hair is matted to my scalp and my olive skin looks like murky water.

"If I find you, Danielle..."

I run and run, and then I'm at the rooftop. I squish my body into a small corner and hold my breath. A minute later, the very door I came in through bangs open, slow controlled breaths accompanying it shortly after.

"Come. Out. Now."

I squeeze my eyes shut and cross my fingers in silent prayer. It's funny how I was never religious or spiritual, but depend on it now as a last resort. I guess the worse situations brings out the more terrible sins in me.

A hand drags me out of my safe place and I'm face-to-face with Omar.

A tear slips down my cheek as I see him for who he really is. Who he's always been.

"I said it, didn't I? You were to dumb to listen."

Omar then smirks at me and pulls me to him, his lips pressed to my ear.

"We're soul tied, Danielle. You belong to me."

I close my eyes and curse.

I'm stuck. Forever.

And the worst part is, I can only blame myself.
