I woke up to find Sarah sitting on the chair playing on her phone. “Can’t sleep?” I asked and she jumped.

“Not really,” She admitted quietly shaking her head. “So I heard that, that little bakery you and mum used to take me to is going out of business,” Sarah said looking down.

“You loved that bakery,” I said to her.

“Yeah, mum did too,” Sarah whispered. “Will you tell me more of the story?” I nodded and thought for a moment.

“Did we really just do that?” Elise asked putting her hand over her mouth; I looked over at her smiling and nodded.

“Yeah, yeah we did.” I laughed; Elise leaned over and kissed me, before pulling away and laughing.

“We just got married,” Elise whispered. “What are we going to tell your mother?”

“That we went out for formula, but decided to get married instead.” I said with a shrug, and Elise laughed before she smacked me in the arm. “Well, we’re going to have to have to get out of the car and tell her.” I said to her and she took a deep breath before nodding. We stepped out of the car and walked into the house. “Mum,” I called.

“Lou, I just got Sarah asleep.” Mum said to me.

“Mum, Elise and I have something to tell you.” I said to her, she raised her eyebrows and I took a deep breath, “Elise and I are married.”

“Married, you and Elise are, married?” She questioned. She put her hands over her face and then out a breath. “Louis, one day you will be the death of me. I’m a little upset that I wasn’t there, but nonetheless I’m happy that it’s Elise.” She said before pulling her into a hug. “Welcome to the family love,”

“Daddy,” I heard my three year old daughter yell running into our bedroom. I felt the bed move under me as Sarah came onto my bed. I pried my eyes open to see my little girl sitting in front of me. “Daddy, I had a bad dream.” Sarah cried throwing her arms around me.

“Sarah nothing’s going to hurt you, you’re okay.” I said to her, Elise sat up in bed, worry written all over her face, I shook my head telling her that everything was fine. Before getting up, and walking back to Sarah’s room.

“Daddy, how do you know nothing’s going to hurt me?” Sarah asked as I laid her in bed.

“What if I told you I had just the thing that will keep you safe?” I asked her and she sat up in bed.

“What is it?” Sarah asked me.

“Well, I don’t know if you’re going to believe me when I tell you.” I said to her.

“Tell me daddy,” Sarah urged and I took a deep breath.

“Well when I was your age, a fairy flew into my room,” Sarah laughed. “See I told you, you wouldn’t believe me.”

“No, come back. I’m sorry.” Sarah said and I turned to her,

“Okay well, when the fairy came into my room, I was like big deal you’re a fairy. And the fairy said you don’t believe me do you? So when I shook my head no, she said I can prove to you that I’m a fairy. And then she gave me an invisible cloak that was supposed to protect me from everything. It really worked too; ever since she gave it to me I never got seriously hurt. But the only thing she told me was that I had to give it to my daughter when she turned three, and I forgot to give it to you.” I said to her.

“Well, can I have it?” Sarah asked me and I nodded before untying the cloak from around my neck and tying it around Sarah’s neck.

“Now, nothing can hurt you. But you have to give it to your daughter when she turns three,” I said and she nodded. I gave her a kiss before lying her back down in bed.

“I love you,” Sarah whispered.

“I love you too,” I said before walking back to bed. Elise was lying in bed staring up at the celling.

“Is Sarah sleeping?”  Elise asked putting her head on my chest.

“Yeah,” I whispered.

“Is that party tomorrow?” Elise asked and I nodded.

“Yeah, but we don’t have to go.” I said to her and she shook her head.

“No, it’s just that Sarah and I may be a little late, she has to go to the doctor’s and they gave me an appointment at 2 in the afternoon, because they couldn’t squeeze her in earlier. So we’ll take the other car, and meet you there.” Elise said.

“No, it’s fine. Harry asked me to come earlier, so I’ll swing by and then come back to get you.” I said before kissing her head.

To this day, I regret ever making that plan with Elise.

**

I looked over at Sarah whose eyes were drooping; she looked like she was going to fall asleep at any moment. “I still have my invisible cloak.” She mumbled, and I smiled. “I wish I could give it back to you,”

“I don’t need it,” I said to her.

“I don’t want to lose you dad,” Sarah whispered, a tear falling from her eye.

“Sarah, just because I’m not with you physically, doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be with you.” I said to her. She nodded before putting her head on my bed and falling asleep.
