THE entire car ride to the airport, Sienna had clung to Giovanni's neck and slept peacefully. It surprised Kalani since Sienna was usually shy and withdrawn from strangers. Once you got to know her, she could never stop blabbering on.

Kalani pushed back the worry in her mind. She'd swore to Giovanni she wouldn't run again but now had realised her mistake. When it came to Sienna, she would do everything in her will to protect her.

The car slid to a halt in front of a classy private jet that Kalani remembered they'd flown in for all their travels. Giovanni carefully clambered out of the car, not wanting to wake Sienna. She stirred nonetheless and rubbed her eyes, never once letting go of her hanky.

She woke herself up and looked around her in a daze. When she caught sight of the massive plane, her eyes widened in surprise before she started jumping excitedly in Giovanni's arms.

"Eyeropwane!" she clapped her hands with exhilaration and Giovanni seemed unsure of how to handle her outburst at first before the corners of his eyes crinkled into a smile.

"That's right, mia farfalla," Kalani smiled at his use of 'my butterfly'. Their daughter was managing to bring them together in ways she'd thought unimaginable. She watched as Giovanni softened his heart for their daughter.

Sienna was let down onto her feet and took the stairs one step at a time. Giovanni stayed close behind her patiently, helping her count the stairs in Italian. "...otto, nove, dieci!" Once they reached ten, Sienna let out an enthusiastic squeal before disappearing inside the plane.

All of a sudden, she ran back out towards Giovanni and took his hand in her mini one. "Come, come," she beckoned him in and his eyes gleamed with amusement. Kalani made her way up the stairs last, nodding at the pilot who froze when he saw her.

"Ciao, Jaws," she greeted him with a warm smile.

"Dio mio ( my God! ) Look how you've changed! I barely recognised you," he exclaimed loudly before pulling her into a bear hug. "You've been well and truly missed." Kalani sighed in the comfort of Jaws' arms. He was the father figure she'd always wished for.

Her own father had passed fifteen years ago in a mafia war that had resulted in his plane being hijacked and plummeted into the depths of the ocean. His body had been found but her mother's was reported missing, including the unborn child.

Kalani knew it was an unjust hatred she still bared towards her father but even at the age of twelve, she'd easily been able to tell that the reason her parents' marriage had become loveless was because of the constant women who'd warmed his bed; one of them having to be another Don's wife.

He'd disrespected their family name and La Cosa Nostra, leading to a full blown feud between their two families. Because of her father's decisions, she'd lost her mother. But now was not the time to dwell on the past. She had her own family to take care of.
