GIOVANNI stepped closer to Kalani, only to be interrupted by a flash from his phone. He turned it on to find a message from Enzo.
Enzo: You asked to speak with me?
"I'll be back in a short while, bella."
Giovanni heard her begin to say something but had already turned briskly on his heel, feeling the anger beginning to brew inside him. This figlio de puttana was without a doubt the cause behind why Kalani's calls, messages and letters had never gotten through to him.
If what she said was true, and she had been trying to remain in contact with him, Enzo would have nothing to do with him or the Famiglia after this. After all, Giovanni had no reason to believe Kalani would lie to him.
Especially since Guiseppe had revealed that Enzo was the one who had argued to shred the evidence Nico had sent him in the first place.
Once Giovanni reached his office, he composed himself. He didn't want this conversation to end in brains splattered over his new leather couch.
Opening the door, he spotted Enzo stood by the fireplace, holding a glass of bourbon. He knew why he was here. There was no need to beat around the bush.
"She told you?"
It was more of a statement than a question.
"Why did you do it?" Giovanni asked, genuinely curious. He reached for the gun in his waistband, making sure it was silenced.
Enzo sensed it and a smile tugged at his lips. "A thank you would be nice."
"Thank you?" Giovanni echoed, hearing the anger beginning to present itself in his voice.
"You are now one of the most feared men in the country. Would a round of applause be too much to ask?"
Giovanni took slow, calculated steps toward the cousin he barely recognised. "You expect me to thank you for destroying the relationship between me and the woman I love? You think you deserve applause for nearly killing her in that car chase you orchestrated?" He came across calm, but the timbre in his voice screamed danger.
Giovanni had put two and two together in the time he'd had to think about the series of events that had happened three years ago. It was only logical that this was Enzo's doing, but his consigliere's reaction would determine if this was true.
Enzo remained quiet.
Giovanni's molars grounded together at the silent admittance of truth, that he had been right all along.
"How long have you known about Sienna?"
Again, Giovanni was met with silence.
"Answer me!"
Enzo only stared into the flickering flames in front of him, swirling the bourbon meticulously.
"Before your father died, Giovanni, I made him a promise," Enzo began. "A promise that I would do everything in my power to make you into the Capo you were destined to be - the most powerful man in Italy."
