AUGUST 2014

I'm pretty sure the Philippines just keeps getting hotter and hotter every year.

I DO NOT remember it ever being this hot.

I had just arrived in Manila and I was already hating it.

See, my parents think I'm too "americanized", so as a result, they're making me finish my high school education here.

Yeah, you can say my parents are cruel.

SERIOUSLY?! My junior AND senior year in this country?

Everyone has probably known each other for years, so I'll be left out. What a pain in the ass.

"Mom, nasan na si kuya?" I asked.

"Ah, at our layover in South Korea, he messaged me saying he would be here at 1." She said as she retouched her make-up.

I checked my phone.

12:15 PM

"Knowing him, dadating late yun."

My mom chuckled, "Pumasok na muna tayo."

I picked up my bags and followed her inside.

It took us a while, but we FINALLY found some empty seats inside the terminal.

"I'm going to the bathroom." I told my mom as I set my things down.

She nodded her head in response.

It took me a while before I found the bathrooms. Why are airports so big?

When I came out of the bathroom, I stood by the water fountains to check my phone. I wanted to see if there was wifi, so I held my phone up to try and get a better signal, and instead I ended up bumping into someone.

"Sor-" I was cut off by this person's sharp tone.

"Pakshit. Watch where you're going."

The guy turned around and scowled at me.

He was nothing special, well as far as I could tell. He was wearing shades inside. What the hell? That's so lame.

"Sorry... that you have attitude problems." I rolled my eyes.

"Ano ba? Ako? You shouldn't be so rude. After all, you're the one who ran into me, you idiot."

"Gago ka ba pala eh? I'm not being rude. I'm merely stating the facts."

"Who do yo-" He got cut off by someone.

"MARCO! Kanina pa kita hinahanap eh. Let's go. Now." The man scowled at him.

I'm assuming that was his father.

As he was being dragged away, he gave me one last dirty sneer before disappearing in the crowd.

I finally made it back to my mom and she was already picking up some bags.

"Mom, you'll never gu-"

"Mamaya na. Tell me in the car, ok? Josh is here!"

When we got outside, we were hit with a burst of hot air and a wave of people and cars. There were so many people that it was hard to spot kuya.

He spotted us first, and he started waving like a maniac.

When we got to his car, he greeted me and mom.

"Hoy Machi! You're still short as ever." He gave me a hug and messed up my hair.

"Ma!" He hugged her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Still annoying as ever KJ, no?" I laughed.

See, I call him kuya, but sometimes KJ because yanno, kuya josh and he's a bit of a kill joy sometimes.
