Chapter 11

"All other things to their destruction draw, our love hath no decay." -John Donne

I glanced back at Hades and wonder what's silenced him... He's fallen into himself. Lost in memories of his past love, I don't doubt.

I've always been taught in life that Hades was the fault of everything, that he's nothing but destruction. Maybe everyone who's alive doesn't know the exact story of his life? Nah, he's always been the bad guy and nothing will ever change.

I'm glad to see that Hades has been pulled back into his memory so far he didn't know what I had thought to myself. God knows what he would have done to me. HA! God. Where was he when I threw myself between the love of my life, my mother, and a bullet?

Hades snapped back to reality. "I have a few questions for you and I'm sure you have questions too, but for now mine are more important. Before I ask those questions though, I need to know if you are aware of why you are here before me."

"I assume it has something to do with the fact that I'm dead and God doesn't want me."

"That is nothing like the response I was looking for. You aren't here because God doesn't want you. You are here because like your grandfather before you, you have been chosen to take over his job so he can retire."

My grandfather was a Diety? It's not like I actually saw him so how could I ever have know that he too had powers such as mine? All these years I thought I was just a freak, but now I come to know it runs in the family? WTF

"You are the very last since you failed to make offspring with your time on earth. The fact is that it skips every other generation. Your child would have had to have time to grow up and their child come into man hood to take your position. That will obviously never happen now that you're here."

Offspring, HA. Like my future ever included children. Margret mentioned once-upon a time that she wanted kids but we never got around to discuss it. I still regret leaving her, but will never forget that I saved her life.

I still don't know exactly who the man was. Something tells me he was more important to my story than I thought.

"I'll take the job."

"Very well then. I expected a little more fight out of you, but if that's what you want to do then great." Hades moved to reveal a chest behind him. "I'll leave you to finish in here then. Oh and one more thing. There are no laws to walls and hallways here. You make your own doors that take you to wherever you imagine. When you're finished think of me and a door will open. I want to see how well you choose what's in the box." Hades opens a door directly in front of him and steps through. The door vanishes in his wake.

Cleston moves to the chest determined to fight the nervousness he feels deep within his gut. He takes a colective breath and unhooks the latch on the mahogany wooden chest. It must have been atleast a hundred years old because once it opened with a creak dust seemed to explode from within.

Cleston started to dig out the contents and sit them on top of the chest still unable to tell exactly where anything in the room was. Hades took the light with him except for a small candle on the wall above the chest. Cleston held up what felt like a jacket and realized it was a dark gray trench coat and riding gear. His job description never mentioned riding a horse?

Cleston started to get dressed in the riding gear and trench coat. A strange combination but the coat made him look sort of devilish, dangerous and scary.

Okay now the next step was to think of Hades. How was I supposed to do this? Just think of Hades and a door will show itself. Okay, Hades. I didn't even now what the man looked like! WTF

Just as Cleston thought Hades name a door ripped through the air settling on the wall next to the chest. It opened when Cleston turned to face it revealing a elegant room baithed in red light with a golden throne smack dab in the middle of the room.

The walls were covered in blackened trees who seemed to have been burned into the walls. Cleston, so mesmerized, walked through the door without taking a second glance at the room behind them.

"This is unreal." Cleston stated taken aback by the rooms beauty.

"It's truly amazing at what women can do with their surroundings isn't it lad?"
