Hibiscus never learned how to talk about her feelings. From a young age she was always told to be strong and independent. While she lovea both her parents to death, being raised that way has been her downfall.
It was in fact a problem for all the Carrington children. None of them were able to figure out what they were feeling, let alone handle expressing said feelings. Even Aster, the oldest and most mature of the three, struggles with it. However, he's become way better at dealing with his problems than both Hibiscus and Marigold combined.
To put it simply, Hibiscus pretended that the Twitter situation never happened. It was easy for her to lie and say it didn't bother her. For the past three days, she's completely ignored the fact that Colleen ever did anything at all.
When he wakes up, he smiles at her. Hibiscus finds herself smiling back completely genuinely, not with her usual fake smile. She likes when she wakes up and Awsten's right next to her.
"Are you doing alright?" he asks, pulling Hibiscus closer. "You were moving around in your sleep."
"I'm okay," she responds as he rubs her back. She relaxes in his arms, glancing up to see him looking at her. She kisses his cheek before burying her head in his chest. Realizing what she just did, her face turns bright red. "Travis gets here tomorrow, yeah?"
"Mhm," he murmurs against the top of her head. "Meaning I'm leaving tomorrow."
"I don't want to think about that. Shush," she says quickly, wrapping her arms around his waist. "Today we bake cookies and ignore the fact that we probably won't see each other until next spring."
"I'm going to all your shows in February. And I want to be here for your birthday."
"I was thinking of going to Houston actually," she admits, looking up at him to see his shocked expression.
"What? No way."
"Yes way. I wanna see you again. Plus, you've visited me already so I think it's my turn. I doubt I will be able to stay until your birthday but–"
"I don't care. I just want to spend time with you," he says softly, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"I want that too." Awsten leans down to kiss her forehead, offering Hibiscus a smile before burying his head in the crook of her neck. "I also want to bake cookies so we have to get out of bed."
Awsten groans in reply, earning a laugh from the girl.
"I knew you were gonna say that," Awsten grumbles, relasing Hibiscus from his arms so they could get up.
Hibiscus watches Awsten as he stretches, his sweater lifting a bit to show his bruise. She's still mad at him for not paying attention. Only Awsten Knight would get hit by a car and brush it off as if nothing happened.
His purple hair is extremely messy, each strand sticking in a different direction. She steps closer, holding his head with one hand while she uses the other to fix his hair. Awsten's eyes stay on her as she does so.
"You face is red," she points out with a little giggle. "It's a cute look, I think."
"Shut up," Awsten laughs, looking away.
Hibiscus kisses his nose before she heads to the kitchen, Awsten following close behind.
