"Damn it!" Jaemin's outburst broke the silence of the early morning in the dorm. "Jeno, your demon cat bit me again!" he called out.
Jeno emerged from his bedroom, vigorously rubbing his face in an attempt to wake up fully. "What's going on?" he asked sleepily.
Jaemin lowered his voice a bit. "I came out here to get a glass of water and your demon cat was hiding behind the couch. She jumped me and bit my leg." He lifted his right leg toward Jeno. "Look, man, it's freaking bleeding! How am I going to cover all these marks from your insane cat?"
Jeno grabbed Jae-Hwa and held her tightly against his chest. She liked being carried around. It seemed to soothe her.
"Dude, I'm sorry. I took her to the vet. You know that, man," Jeno began.
"Yeah, I know all about your cat's anxiety disorder," groused Jaemin. "I remember you told me the vet wants to put her on Prozac, which, honestly, I think is madness."
Jeno petted Jae-Hwa's fluffy head and continued to hold her close. "Listen, dude, we're going to work it out. I just got a cat pheromone diffuser. The smell of other cats is supposed to calm her. If that doesn't work, we could try getting her a boyfriend."
"Oh, my god!" Jaemin exclaimed. "I can't believe you think your cat is acting out just because she's sexually frustrated. If that were the case, we'd all be acting out!" he observed.
"I know it's a hassle," Jeno conceded, "but just give me a little more time to try to get her sorted."
"Whatever," Jaemin muttered. "Just keep her away from my legs, OK?"
"Yeah, man, I'll do my best," Jeno vowed, looking into Jae-Hwa's green eyes. She looked so innocent, but he knew what she was capable of. She had attacked him a few times as well. So, he was aware that something had to be done about her behavior or the other guys were going to insist that he give her up.
He put the tiny calico in her carrier and walked out the door with her. It seemed wise to give the guys a bit of space from her until she calmed down. As he sat on a bench with Jae-Hwa beside him in the carrier, he decided to call Alma.
"Hello?" Alma answered in the rough voice of a person who was either just coming in from a late night or just woke up.
"Hey, Alma. Did I wake you?" Jeno asked cautiously.
"Yeah," she said, "but it's OK. I had to get up soon anyway. What's up?"
"Listen, I have a huge favor to ask you," Jeno ventured.
"Lay it on me," Alma said, as she made a tremendous amount of noise in the background, presumably making her first cup of coffee for the day.
"Well, Jae-Hwa is really struggling to adapt to the environment of the dorm. She's been acting out and biting the other guys. And they are just getting fed up with it," Jeno continued.
"OK."
"Yeah, so, I was wondering if you could take her for just a couple of weeks. I need her to calm down, and then I think I can get her used to the dorm again. I know it's a lot to ask. I'm willing to come to your place and clean up her litter and all that," Jeno said, realizing he was talking way too fast.
"Well, I would love nothing more than to take her off your hands for a bit, but I'm actually packing right now to go home for a few weeks," Alma answered.
