Dominic opened his eyes as his alarm clock went off. He found himself staring at the ceiling unable to move as he remembered the worst night of his life. He wearily ran his hands down his face trying to chase away the memory.

"If you're not going to turn that off, I'm going to throw it out the window." Katrina rolled over in her husbands' arms.

"I'm sorry baby." He quickly ended the machine's incessant wailing. He turned back to Kat and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead as he rubbed her round belly, feeling the baby kick in response.

"He's not a morning person either." She griped at him. "Why are we up so early on a Saturday?" She moaned as she stretched her nude body across the bed.

Dominic's eyes roamed over her plump form lustfully and he nipped her lips in a playful kiss. "You better stop teasing me otherwise you'll end up pregnant again before you get this one out."

Katrina's laugh was cut short as they heard running in the hall. She barely had time to throw the cover over herself before five year old Kaitlynn crashed through the door and jumped on their bed. "Daddy can I watch cartoons?" she asked as a mop of red curls hung from her head.

"Sure you can." Dominic scooped his adopted daughter in his arms and spun her around.

It was a miracle as not only did Katrina's father survive that horrible night but so did she and her unborn baby. The police arrived with an ambulance in tow just as Dominic dropped to his knees beside them. Their quick actions managed to save Katrina's life. Kaitlynn was born two month premature, but proved to be a resilient little thing as she clung to life.

Katrina married Dominic as soon as she and baby Kaitlynn were well enough to leave the hospital, in a beautiful, private ceremony. Dominic legally adopted Kait just days after since her biological father died the same night she was brought into this world.

After four years of supporting each other through college, law school and degrees, with contributions and donations from her and Dominic's families, Katrina was able to open up a small practice in the heart of their city. Dominic was breezing through his last years of law school and on his way to being an excellent prosecutor just like his father always encouraged him to be.

"Can we have Mickey Mouse pancakes?" Kaitlynn asked from atop her father's shoulders.

"You have to ask your mother." Dominic responded as he ducked to allow them space in the hallway.

"Can we mama?" Kaitlynn called back over her shoulder.

"As long as your father's cooking!" Kat called after them as she closed her robe, covering the heart shaped wound over her left breast. She rubbed her stomach as she followed them into the kitchen with a smile on her face. It took God a while, but he finally answered her prayers.
