...

You were sitting on your favorite green chair in the living room, reading a book with the light coming off the lamp to your left. You pushed your glasses up your nose with your middle finger and continued with a sniffle.

The story was beautiful. Your daughter bought you the book for your 87th birthday three days ago. It reminded you of Spencer. God, it hadn't even been 5 years but you missed him dearly. You sighed and put the book down, bookmark in place. You looked out the window for a while, just admiring the weather and the plants that you could see in your backyard. They used to be Spencer's and now it was your mission to take care of them as well as he took care of you.

The doorbell rang and you got up with a huff, the arthritis in your knee was flaring up again but you were too excited to see your grandchildren to do anything about it. You slowly made your way to the door but since you were too short to see out of the peephole you shouted, "Who is it?"

"It's us, Grandma!" Your granddaughter, Lily, shouted from the other side of the door. You undid the locks and opened the door with the brightest smile on your face.

"Grandma!" Axel, your grandson, yells before hugging around your legs. You smiled and pet his head, he was only 5.

"Hello hello hello!" You said hugging both of your grandchildren before ushering them inside. You gave a hug and a kiss to your daughter and she was on her way towards the kitchen with a bag in her hand.

"How are you mom?" Iliana asks.

"Oh, you know. Same old, same old. How've you been Illy?" You ask back.

"Busy, Rob cut out of work again today. His cold is pretty bad and I didn't want the kids to get sick. Thanks again for watching them."

"Oh, no problem! I love the company. The house has been very quiet without your father."

Iliana smiled meekly before she looks down to check her watch. "Okay, I've got to go. I have a meeting soon and I still have to get dressed." She looks down at her jeans and t-shirt.

"Alright, have a good day Illy. See you tonight."

Your daughter locks and closes the door as she leaves and you sigh. You wished she could spend more time with you but you understand that she's young and ambitious. Her job working for some CEO or other was time-consuming. You were just happy she'd come inside at all.

You walked over to the kitchen island and opened the bag she brought. It had some leftovers inside, probably for the kids to eat later since they've been picky lately. The thought made you smile, you remembered when Iliana was at that picky stage too.

You heard a loud thump in the living room and decided to make your way there to check on the kids. You heard giggling so you figured it couldn't have been anything bad.

As you rounded the corner, you saw Axel and Lilly on the carpet laughing at Axel's toy dinosaur- for what reason, you didn't know, but you smiled at them nonetheless.

"So, now that your mother's gone," you paused for dramatic effect. They looked up at you with hopeful eyes, "Who wants to go to the market?"

The two of them shot up and jumped around.

"Me me me!" Axel yelled before putting his head closer to his dinosaur. "What was that Tony? You want to go too? Okay!"

Lily looked at her younger brother with narrowed eyes. "You're gonna take him?"
