A/N: 😏

It's a cool autumn evening, the sun shining in golden rays through the branches of the trees lining the busy street. Cars whizzed by in a rush to get home after a busy day at work. Unfortunately for you, your workday was just getting started. And what an interesting shift it would turn out to be...

Brushing a strand of (h/c) hair out of your eyes you turned the corner, seeing your workplace, Wendy's, come into view. You gave a sigh of annoyance, not wanting to go to work but knowing that you desperately needed the money.

"Well, at least I'll get a paycheck." you said to yourself, smoothing out the shirt of your uniform as you crossed the street. For about 5 months now you'd been saving to buy a car but between paying rent and paying for groceries there wasn't mush left of your paycheck to save.

The bell on the door rang as you came inside, signaling your entrance. You finished punching in before putting your name tag on and getting behind the counter to tend the registers.

Like usual, the beginning of your shift was boring and seemed to drag on forever. None of your work friends had their shifts at the same time today, so you were just tired and alone. It was nearing 10:00 now, and the dinner rush had died down. Barely anyone sat inside now, and the drive through was empty. You laid your  head in your hands, beyond tired from your stressful day. "Only a few more hours," you sighed, trying to reassure yourself. "And then i can go home."

Just as the words passed your lips, the bell rang in the door. You groaned, lifting your head up expecting yet another unreasonable customer. Instead, you were met with the most beautiful person you had ever seen. Your (e/c) widened and you barely noticed that your mouth had dropped open.

The person who walked in the door was the most beautiful you had ever seen. Their bright green skin appeared to glow in the bright light of the Wendy's, and his chocolate brown eyes had a mesmerizing quality to them. It took them smiling at you to realize you had been staring and your cheeks flushed as you averted your eyes, thoroughly embarrassed.

He slowly walked up to the counter, giving you a view of his outfit as he came closer. His ruffled maid dress swayed as he walked just covering the tops of his knee high socks which were paired with a pair of black heels. Your cheeks were still flaming red, and for a moment you considered running away out of pure embarrassment.

"Uh- h-hello, uh, welcome to Wendy's. H-how can I help you?" you stuttered, barely getting out the standard greeting. The stranger just smiled, not seeming bothered by your state.

"Hi," he grinned,  "Can I get a 10 piece chicken nugget with fries?" You nodded for a second before remembering to respond.

"Y-yes! of course! Is there anything else I can get you?" you squeaked, feeling more embarrassed by the second. The stranger seemed to think for a moment before speaking.

"Hmm... well, what's your favorite here?" He questioned. It took you a minute to get your thoughts in order.

"Well, I guess I like the vanilla frosties best." you mumbled, wringing your hands together nervously. The stranger smiled again, making your heart beat faster.

"I'll get one of those then, since you say they're good" he said sweetly. You nodded and put his order in the register, telling him his price.

" That'll be ten dollars," you said, reaching out to grab the cash from his outstretched hand. As you took the money to put it in the register you felt your fingers brush against his. You felt your  heart skip a beat and your face turned even more red than before, if it was even possible. "Thank you..." you paused, unsure how to address him.

"Shrek," he smiled. "You can call me Shrek." You handed him his food, your hands shaking a little.

"T-hank you, Shrek," you stuttered, still thinking about how his hand had felt when it had brushed against yours.

"No, thank you..." he smiled, not sure what your name was. You realized your name tag was covered by your (h/c) hair.

"(Y/N)," you said shyly, smiling back at him. You grabbed the receipt from the machine, and in a sudden burst of courage you quickly wrote your phone number on it before placing it face down on his tray, hoping he would see it when he sat down.

"Thank you, (y/n)" Shrek laughed, seeming happy. "I hope I see you again soon." You smiled widely, more confident now.

"I hope to see you again as well," you said, brushing your (h/c) hair out of your face. You watched as Shrek sat down in a booth in view of the counter, setting his food down in front of him. And just as he did so, the bell on the door rang yet again...
