Fluff, Angst with a happy ending

Summary:
Thomas gets stuck in the maze over night leaving Newt alone to think about everything he never got to do...never got to say.

Newt stood at the edge of the forest as he watched the maze doors, his fingers occasionally drifting down to fiddle with the frayed edge of his ratty shirt.

They should be back by now

Like many mornings before today's Thomas and Minho had ventured off into the maze with the other runners to map it out and search for a way to escape.

Like many nights before this one Newt felt his nerves get the better of him as he anxiously awaited for his best friend and boyfriend to run back out of the maze perfectly safe before the doors closed like they did every night and his Tommy would run straight over him, glistening with sweat that accentuated his high cheek bones and toned muscles, kissing him deeply before pulling him into a tight reassuring embrace.

He would hug him tight and whisper sweet nothings into his ear before pulling away and making Newt fall victim to his signature lopsided grin that had the ability to make him go week in the knees.

And now here he was forced to stand here and unable to do anything but watch as, one by one, all the runners emerged from the maze jogging into the awaiting crowed of Gladers.

All of them except Thomas and Minho.

They were always back before the first shades of colour tinted the sky.

He was always back.

Every evening before sunset he would come running through those god forsaken doors with Minho by his side.

The sky was a dull shade of pink, the dullest he had ever seen in all his three years and there were storm clouds rolling in from the east as if the sky itself could feel Newts fear.

He was so lost in the sea of his own thoughts that he didn't even hear the snap of twigs behind him or the soft crunch of fallen leave's. He wasn't even aware he was in the presence of another until he felt a warm hand gently place itself on his shoulder, and even then he couldn't bring him self to acknowledge the other, only managing to think about how Thomas' touch was warmer.

Not an uncomfortable heat, but a comforting warmth that wrapped around his whole body and brought him comfort.

Like the first rays of morning sunshine, or the heat welcoming heat of a fire on a cold night.

"Their strong Newt, they'll make it back" a rough yet soft voice spoke from behind him.

Alby.

"How can you be so sure Alby, it's almost sunset, the doors will be closing any minute" Newt replied in a shaky voice. Tears welling up in his eyes though he refused to let them fall.

Newt knew they were strong, Hell they were the strongest people he knew. But that didn't change the fact that his best friend and boyfriend were stuck in the unknown dangers of the maze with mere minutes to return before they were stuck in there for the night. No one survived a night in the maze. He had every shucking right to be scared for them.

"I know because I have faith, I know they can make it through this, they are the strongest runners we have. If the others can make it back so can they" Alby spoke full of confidence but no matter how believable he sounded Newt couldn't bring himself to follow his optimism.
