Cali's POV:
I adjust my thick framed glasses one last time before knocking on the door of my best friend's house. As I wait, I stare aimlessly at the welcome mat that sits in front of the white wooden door.
I focus my attention on the door as it swings open revealing Tony, my best friend. "Cali, hey!" Tony takes a step aside to let me enter his humble abode. "Hey!" I move to step inside then greet Tony with a quick hug. I go to pull back but Tony holds me in a firm grip for just a couple seconds longer, I'm not complaining though.
I get the all too familiar butterflies in my stomach, fluttering around without a care in the world. It only happens when I'm around Tony. I try to push the feeling away, but it is very stubborn. Tony is my friend, best friend. Nothing can like this can happen to jeopardise it.
"So.. what are we doing today?" I ask, as I follow Tony through the hall of his house and into the living room where I am met with my three other closest friends. Mike, Vic and Jaime. "Well, we were thinking we could play a game of truth or dare" Vic says with a smirk. Oh, great.
"You guys are lame.." I shake my head as I walk further into the spacious room. "I'm in" I announce as I sit myself down on one of the cream coloured sofas that occupied Tony's lounge room. Tony sits across from me next to Mike and I am currently sat between Vic and Jaime. "Let's do this, Mike. Truth or dare?" Jaime asks.
"Dare" Mike says confidently as he crosses his arms over his chest. Jaime rubs his hands together as he tilts his head in thought. "I dare you to..."
"...attempt to twerk" Jaime tries to get out whilst laughing as if he already had the mental picture set up. "Pfft.." Mike scoffs, starting to get up. "Wait! On video and you have to post it to twitter" Jaime says again, making Mike a little hesitant. But he gets up anyway with determination.
Vic grabs his phone from his pocket in a flash, ready to film the dare along with everyone else. Mike gets into a sort of half-squatting position, from this perspective it looked like he had a pole stuck up his butt. Mike rests his hands on his knees as he attempts to accomplish the mainstream dance move. If you would even call it that, but what else is there to call it except for stupid?
My sides were hurting from doubling over and laughing as hard as I possibly could. The rest of the guys were in the same state as me. After about 10 seconds, Mike rises from his awkward position demanding that he was finished with the dare.
"Alright now, Cali! Truth or dare?" Mike asks dramatically as if it were a life or death question. "Dare" I say reluctantly whilst running a hand through my rusty blonde hair. "I dare you to, kiss Vic!" Mike laughs. Both you and Vic turn a deep shade of red. Vic's is more hidden because he is so tan, so the situation is much worse for me. I see Tony tense up for a second and I raise one eyebrow in confusion.
"Well, go on" Mike chuckles. I look to Vic for comfirmation but he only just shrugs his shoulders in response. I turn my face slightly to face Vic at a better angle and lean in to peck his lips but Vic grabs me by the waist and deepens the kiss. It was a nice kiss, that's for sure. But it wasn't Tony. I felt nothing with Vic, as bad as that sounds. Although, I'm not supposed to. It's only a dare. Vic and I break apart once we hear a door slam. I look around the small circle to notice that Tony is no longer sitting across from me. Jaime sighs and jogs after him.
"What's wrong with Tony?" I was very confused. Why would Tony get angry all of a sudden?
"Beats me" Mike shrugs. "I got a pretty accurate theory as to why he stormed off towards his bedroom" Vic says. I look to him for an answer but Vic doesn't tell me. He just motions his head towards Tony's bedroom as if he was telling me to go see him.
I rise from my sitting position on the couch and slowly make my way through the large house. I arrive at the cream coloured door with the silver door knob. I lift my hand up to knock but stop when I hear voices. I know I shouldn't be eavesdropping, I turn around ready to walk away when I hear my name. Being the curious person I was, I lean my head against the door.
Tony's POV:
"You have to tell Cali how you feel! Before someone else takes her" Jaime says in a hushed voice. I stomped to my room after watching Vic pull Cali in for a more deeper kiss than intended. He knows I like her, why would he do this?
"I can't Jaime! She won't-" I lower my voice a little. "She won't feel the same way, a beautiful girl like Cali would never like an average guy like me" I point at myself with my head down. "You're being too hard on yourself Tone, I'm almost positive that she would like you back. You just need to have a little confidence" Jaime pats my shoulder in a comforting gesture. I nod twice, still looking at the ground.
"We should get back before everyone gets suspicious" Jaime finally says after a minute. "Yeah, okay" I mumble.
Cali's POV:
Shit! I quickly dive around the corner before Jaime opens the door and walks out of the room, back towards the lounge. I poke my head out from the corner to get a clearer view to see that Tony hasn't emerged from his room yet. I decide that it is now or never to confront him.
With slow, shaky steps I stand before his bedroom. Tony is sat at the end of the bed with his head down, not yet noticing my presence. "Tony" I speak up, causing his head to snap up in my direction.
"Uh, hey.. Cali" Tony says nervously, worried that I might have heard what he said. Which I did. "Before you ask, yes I did hear what you said" I say in a casual manner. Tony's face flushes to a red colour as he directs his attention to a piece of thread hanging from his blanket.
"Tony, I like you" I say, cutting right to the chase. "As a friend, I know" Tony grumbles.
"More than a friend" this makes Tony lift his head to look at me. He rises from the bed and walks towards me with hesitant steps. "Really?" he asks in disbelief. "Yes, really" I laugh. I look up into Tony's deep brown orbs, as he looks into my green ones.
We both lean in slowly to one another, almost scared in case one of us decides to just run out of the room at the last minute. Finally our lips meet in a much needed kiss. Our lips move in a rhythmic pattern, almost like two puzzle pieces fitting together. It was meant to be this way. The butterflies exploded, nothing like I felt with Vic.
Tony's hands slips around my waist as mine tangle in his hair. We both pull away with sighs of satisfaction. Tony's smile was nearly as bright as the sun but I'm sure I was the same.
"You have no idea how long I have been waiting to do that" Tony chuckles to himself. "I've got a pretty good idea" I laugh myself.
"Cali, I was wondering..." Tony suddenly goes back to his nervous self.
"Yess?" I push, dragging out the 'yes'.
"Will you please be my girlfriend" Tony breathes. My smile grows bigger, if that was physically possible. All I do is pull his head down to my level and connect our lips together once again. "I take that as a yes" Tony mumbles into the kiss.
I smile and continue the kiss until we both had to pull away for air. "It most definitely is" I grin, making Tony pick me up into a tight hug.
So this is what true happiness feels like? I like it.
