..Tamara looked through the window of the passenger, while a low tune emitted through the radio of their Uber. It was eight thirty in the morning when the pair had left the airport, being assisted by one of the security guards to find a car to take them to their new home.
It was quite tricky to speak to the male because his first language was French, but they soon found themselves a car and lucky enough, the Uber driver spoke English.
"So, you guys are from the states?"
Tamara turned her gaze towards the rearview, tossing her gaze towards her mother from the backseat. Elaine took this as a sign for her to speak instead of Tamara. Clearing her throat, she spoke up;
"Uhm yeah, new York specifically.."
"Oh, new York?, That's nice. What brings you guys to supposed ville de l'amour?"
The Uber driver was quite charming. A young man with a trimmed beard and calm brown eyes, that matched the waves of his hair. Tamara continued her daydream, watching the beautiful buildings of Belleville pass by and the people that littered the sidewalks and small restaurants.
It was bright out, as summer weather spread into the atmosphere.
"Well, we're moving here..for my job"
The driver nodded, before turning his brow eyes towards the young female beside him. It was a brief look before he attended back to focusing on the road.
"Is this your daughter?"
Tamara turned her head immediately, meeting the gaze of the young male. He passed her a kind grin, before Elaine spoke up from behind them.
"Yes, my one and only."
Tamara tossed him a tight lipped grin before turning her gaze away from him and back at the outside world.
"She's beautiful, much like her mother..and if I didn't know, I'd think you were her sister"
The driver shifted his gaze towards the rearview. His honey orbs looking Elaine's direction. Elaine gushed, giggling lowly and pushing away at his words.
"Boy, don't start. I'm too old for that"
Elaine shook her head, adjusting herself on the leather seat. The driver chuckled, making a turn into another road.
------After a thirty minute drive, the car came to a stop in front of a white painted one story home, among many similar ones. It stood at the very end of the block, where the road circled. It's grass was cut to perfection, and the roofing came in a calm green.
The neighborhood looked calm and collected, as some people walked their dogs while a few children rode around in their bikes.
Elaine stretched as soon as she stepped out of the car, breathing in the fresh oxygen. Tamara squinted her eyes at the bright sunny rays, dusting her tee. The driver soon afterwards, stepped out to get their bags in the trunk.
