Billie Joe has been sitting on his sofa for the first three weeks of summer, and hasn’t really got up for anything but food. There was nothing good on the TV to watch, nobody would call him on his phone, “All I need is something different, something exciting in my life.” He would say to himself. The front door burst open, Billie’s eyes narrowed at the Blinding light that came through the doors. It was his best friends, Mike and Tré that came in (a daily routine for the two), “Come on, Billie! You have to do something this summer other than sitting on that old sofa.” Mike exclaimed. Billie then resumed staring blankly at the boring Television, “There is nothing to do here.”

“We can go out for food.” Tré suggested.

“I’m already a little chubby, no.” Billie’s eyes remained on the TV.

“We can go to the beach, then.”

“No, the water is polluted here.” Billie denied again. Mike was annoyed at Billie’s behaviour, so he turned off the TV. Not effective, Billie didn’t take his eyes off it for one second. “Billie, this isn’t right! Look at you, the TV is off!” Mike waved his hands in Billie’s face.

“TV is boring, there was nothing to watch anyway. I’ve been everywhere in this state, there is nothing ‘fun’to do,” Billie finally looked up at Tré and Mike, “My answer is always ‘no’ and it will probably always be.” He sighed and tilted his head back into the sofa.

“Whatever, Billie.” Tré said as he and Mike walked out the door. When he was alone once again, Billie turned the TV back on. He felt guilty. His best friends were trying to help him, but they just don’t understand. His guilt turned into anger, and his anger turned into rage. He suddenly got up and started to attack his sofa; punching and kicking and tearing the cushions, causing a mix of feathers and stuffing flutter around the room. I hate you!  He thought, referring to his sofa. He suddenly stopped to listen to a commercial that caught his ears, “Are you stuck at home this summer?” yes Billie thought. “Are you feeling like a dog in heat?” yes, “Are you looking for excitement in your life at the cost of FREE?YES! “If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, and  you have an amazing talent, get going to the East 12th street theatre for our first annual Talent show, the winner receives a free two month stay at The Golden Palms Resort in Hawaii! You can sign yourself up from now until this Thursday, and the Show will be held on Sunday, June 27th! Don’t miss this opportunity!”

A flood of hope filled Billie’s heart. He could sing very well and play the guitar. Mike could play the bass, and Tré could play the drums. He thought of an idea so brilliant, that he was already thinking that he would win that Talent show for sure. He was going to make a band. He called Mike and Tré to tell them that he was actually going to do something with his summer, they accepted Billie’s proposal with no hesitation.

Over the few days, they signed themselves into the talent show, their band name was “Green Day” They practiced a song that Billie wrote himself, “Welcome to Paradise”.  The Sunday of the Talent show came closer and closer as the days went by. When the day of the show came, “Green Day” did one more practice and went on stage last. To their luck, Most of the contestants didn’t really show any  talent. When “Green Day” started playing, from the first chords to the last strum, the crowd seemed to love the song and its uniqueness. Billie’s prediction was very accurate; they had won first place and the trip to Hawaii.

In two weeks, the boys went straight to Hawaii, in their huge suit, and stayed at the resort, enjoying everythingthere was. This place is starting to feel like my home, Billie thought, I will never leave.
