"You will survive it somehow because life starts now"
It took months but it was finally happening. After months of fighting, a judge finally overturned Itachi's conviction. "Shouldn't you be studying for your end of semester exams?" Itachi teased when he saw Sasuke waiting for him after his release.
"Shut up," Sasuke said, happy tears running down his face as he hugged his brother for the first time in years. "I wouldn't miss this for the world," he told him, hanging on to him as if he would disappear if he let go.
"You know this isn't over, right?" Itachi asked softly while hugging his brother back.
"I know," Sasuke finally let go. "But can we just pretend it is for a day?" he asked, not wanting to think about the fact that the investigation into his father's death would once again start. He didn't want to think about the fact that they would be asking him questions about that night and what he remembered.
Itachi nodded, "Of course." He didn't want to ruin the day by talking too much about what was yet to come. It had become clear in the past few months that the investigation was no longer focused on him. The investigators already visited him while he was in prison. They had already asked him questions about his mother, seeing if his story matched up with what Sasuke had told them after his mother reappeared before the brothers could talk without being monitored.
"We're here too," Kakashi said from the behind them. Itachi looked at him to see Naruto by his side, smiling at the brothers' reunion.
Itachi smiled at him, "It has been too long, Kakashi." He moved away form the younger Uchiha to hug the older man, "Thank you for taking care of him when I couldn't."
"I can't believe it's been ten years," Kakashi said. "You never should have been in there," he told him as he pulled away from the hug. "I always knew you were innocent."
Itachi nodded, "Let's not focus on the past."
Kakashi nodded, "Tomorrow we'll talk about the future. The Uchiha Corporation deserves to have an Uchiha involved." Itachi nodded, knowing there was a lot to talk about. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't be the face of the company after everything that happened. If anything he'd have to be a silent partner. He had been able to finish his high school education while in prison, but he thought he was never getting out so he hadn't bothered even trying to apply for the schools that did have programs for inmates.
"Sasuke will be there soon enough," he reminded the older man.
"Talk business later," Sasuke huffed. "I want to spend time together today," he told Itachi excitedly.
Itachi smiled before looking at Naruto, "And I want to learn more about you."
Naruto's eyes went wide and Sasuke laughed. "Itachi, don't scare him away. I love him," he told his brother with a smile. He hadn't smiled so much in years and everyone was happy to see his smile return. He hadn't even realized he had said love until his brother said something.
Itachi looked at Sasuke, surprised by what he had said. "Love, huh?" he teased his brother. "You didn't tell me that." He had a feeling that he loved him with how Sasuke had talked about him, but Sasuke had never confirmed that suspicion until that moment. "Now I really need to get to know you better."
"Oaky, let's go get something to eat," Sasuke suggested, quickly changing the subject with a little bit of a blush. Naruto smiled at him as he intertwined their fingers as they walked towards Kakashi's car. "We need to get you some real food," Sasuke told him, excited to be able to go out and do things with his brother.
"Well, we can't go anywhere too fancy with the clothes Kakashi brought me," Itachi said as he looked at the older man.
Kakashi shrugged, "You said bring you clothes, you didn't say what kind of clothes. Just be happy that they fit, I had to guess your size." Itachi just rolled his eyes as they got into the car.
