You usually felt rather indifferent to eating dinner with your family. You didn't hate it, nor did you love it, it had just more or less become a routine and you figured you just had to get the small talk over with, but at least the food was enjoyable and delicious just as always. It made the entire thing a bit more tolerable. You and your family usually just talked about how everyones day has been, the latest gossip from your mother's workplace, your father complaining about a thing or two about his own job, them asking you about how school's going, how your friends are doing and so on so forth. Same old.

You had accidentally told them about the upcoming halloween party that your classmate Reiner was hosting the upcoming weekend at his place. You weren't quite sure if you wanted to go or not, telling them that you had a lot of homework to catch up on, which wasn't really true but you just wanted to have a valid excuse to stay home. Your parents kept nagging you about going to the party and their exaggerated encouragement was almost overwhelming, not because they actually wanted to see you go have fun and enjoy your high-school life to the fullest, but because they were worried about their child becoming a social outcast. All they ever seemed to care about was what other people thought about their child, their own reputations weren't as important as their child's reputation and how other people viewed you.

"So, Y/N, about that party that your friend is hosting..." your father said as he took another bite out of his food, "You going? If you want to, I can give you a ride. And if you're going with your friends I can drive you all there."

"I don't know yet, dad. We'll see." You answered, sounding fairly tired.

"Your dad and I really think you should go, honey. It'll be lots of fun, all of your friends will be there, right? You should enjoy your high-school years while you still can, dear, it won't last forever. Once you become an adult like us, attending parties is going to be a rare opportunity. You know, with all of the boring adult obligations getting in the way... such as work, taking care of the house, cooking for the family, raising kids, more work, and-"

"I get it mom." You started to become slightly annoyed, but you tried not to let it show. "If I'm going, I'll probably be going with Mikasa, Armin and Eren."

"Oh, that sounds wonderful." Your mother said cheerfully as if you had just confirmed something, which you hadn't, but it seems like she wanted it to seem that way. "Mikasa is such a sweet girl, you two seem to be very good friends, right?"

"Sweet isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe her as but yeah... We are good friends." You smiled at the thought of her. She used to come over to your house pretty often, and sometimes even staying over for the night. The more you thought of her, the faster your heart started to race. You were just glad that your parents couldn't notice it.
