'Okay. Where are we going now?' I ask Danny who walks beside me.
He looks at the screen of his phone, bites his lip, and replies, 'Let's see. When we get to this point in a minute ...' he points to it with his finger, '... we have to turn right. At that tree just a little bit straight ahead and then we are already there.'
I hear Finn quicken his stride and see his curls appear above Danny's shoulder. 'Sorry, but can I have a look too? I'm part of this mission too.'
The irritation has disappeared from his voice for a long time, but his words still don't come out well. Like he still can't stand Danny and I walking side by side.
'Of course, Finn. You're right.' Danny turns and holds the screen in front of Finn.
I see my brother frowning at the map. 'Hm, are you really sure that the end point is there?'
Danny nods vigorously. 'Of course. It's in the description, check it out.'
'Yeah, I had seen that description a long time ago,' Finn sighs, rolling his eyes. 'I was talking about the area itself. Didn't Erik ever educate you about the gathering places of the other packs?'
I immediately see Danny's eyes widen. 'Damn. You're absolutely right, Finn. The place where the cave is located is the same place where Viggo's pack always gathers. Shit!'
'Exactly. Now we have a problem.'
I look at them both confused. 'Why? Can't we just walk around here?'
Finn shrugs. 'In fact, yes. But they actually don't want it. Erik doesn't like having strange wolves in his territory either, unless there really is no other choice.'
'And we can't tell Viggo why we're actually here in his territory,' Danny sighs. 'At least, not yet. Everything must remain a secret for now.'
'Indeed.' My brother gives me a penetrating look. 'Ester. No matter what happens, no one should know that you are the chosen one. That will only come in the future, when everyone is ready.'
For a moment, I get confused, but I decide not to ask any further. I'll figure out why it's so important not to tell anyone about my new status. That is why I just nod.
'So, what do we do now?' Danny asks uncertainly. 'Soon, one of Viggo's spies will come to us to find out exactly what we're looking for here. Then we are completely screwed.'
We are silent for twenty seconds.
For a moment, I'm afraid we'll have to cancel the whole plan because it won't work at all, but then suddenly Finn grabs his phone. 'You know what? I'll give Bjorn a call. He will probably want to help us.'
Danny and I both look at him in surprise.
'Who the hell is Bjorn?' I ask him.
'That new wolf,' Finn replies, entering a phone number in quick movements. 'The one who is trained by me. And by the way, the one who is almost done with his training.'
'And why would he want to help us?' Danny asks. I see he has a suspicious look in his eyes. 'I mean, he hasn't even been officially named a Warrior yet. I wonder if Erik agrees. Shouldn't we call him?'
'Oh, don't be like that!' Finn growls, pressing the green phone button and holding the phone to his ear. 'Of course he disagrees. And that's why we're not going to tell him about it. This stays between the three of us, okay?'
I look at Danny with the same suspicious look. Our faces agree: this is not a good plan. Firstly, it isn't because we don't know that wolf at all yet. We have no idea if he is good enough to come with us. Secondly, it isn't a good plan because Finn is suddenly acting so retarded again, just like before. As if he has a monopoly on wisdom by asking that strange wolf for advice. He is just a teacher, but he pretends he has a huge dose of Shadow knowledge and doesn't have to ask anyone's permission.
