Riley

I sit at the school bleachers, taking in the somber atmosphere. I take in a sigh, watching as the birds hop on the wet grass of the field. Something feels different. I don't know why, but it just does.

"Hey," I hear his musky voice say as he slides right next to me. "What's up?"

I keep my eyes ahead, not meeting his eye.

"Riley..." I turn my head to face him, his eyes wide with embarrassment. "I...I just wanted to tell you..." He shakes his head, avoiding my eye.

His face seems like he can't say what he wants. Like it's too hard for him to even say it in front of me. "What, Lucas?" I say in a soft tone, pleading for an answer I hope he gives.

He finally looks into my eyes, but something feels different. Something doesn't feel the same. "I just came by to tell you...that...um, I know you like me. But it's just never going to work out, you know? I'm bad for you."

Taking in his words, I shake my head in confusion. "What?" My voice almost sounds cracked.

"I'm not going to change...I'm-I'm-I'm..."

"Lucas?" My voice raises. His head shakes violently, almost mechanically. I cover my mouth to keep from screaming. "Lucas?" I murmur.

"Wake up," he says robotically. "Wake up,"

"What?"

"Wake up,"

...

My eyes spring awake, along with my body. I take in large amount of breathes, holding my stomach. My alarm beeps just as I glance at it, making me flinch just a little.

"Turn it off!" I hear a groggy voice say. I glance around the room nervously, remembering that voice. He pushes himself up in a sitting position, running his hand through his short hair. "Didn't I say..." He looks at me wide-eyed, where he sits on my bed.

My bed.

My mouth drops open, but nothing seems to come out. Did Lucas Friar literally sleep in my bed? What? He wasn't here last night, was he?

"Oh my God..." Lucas says in disbelief. "Did I sleep with you? I'm-I'm so sorry, but I didn't remember. It was good though, right? I hope so...Oh my God." He shakes his head, placing his hands on his head.

"Lucas," his eyes lift to mine. "I'm pretty sure we didn't 'sleep together' but you sure did sleep next to me." My cheeks warm. I place my hand on the button which turns the alarm off, before glancing up at Lucas again. My thoughts roaming inside me. "How did you even get in here?"

"I...I don't even remember." He looks away, unsure.

"How can you not remember?"

He crawls off the bed, fixing his hair. That's when I notice he wasn't wearing a shirt. I look down in embarrassment. "I just don't know, okay!"

I stare at his forehead, which still has black sharpie. "And what if we did sleep together? What would you say about that?"

"Riley, I'm sorry, but I don't know how I got here."

"Oh, so you just sleep walked into my bedroom, sleep crawled onto my bed, and maybe even did sleep sex with me?" I retort, throwing my hands in the air. "Or what, were you drunk? You drink don't you." I shake my head in disgust.

"I don't drink..."

"Right, of course you don't."

He stares into my eyes. "...I-I don't know what happened here, okay? Let's just forget it even happened."
