Camila Cabello was used to being the it girl. Pretty and popular, when she walked down the school hallways every girl turned to see what skirt she was wearing and every boy turned to see how short that skirt was. And now that she was a senior... well that just meant she really was queen bee. There was nobody else above her in the social hierarchy, and that was just. how. she liked it.
She lived in Canada her entire life, in the same house, in the same bedroom. Everyone knew who her family was and everybody knew who she was. Her mother was on the PTA, her father essentially funded the annual Founder's Festival; they were... prominent to say the least in the local community. With prominence came expectation and as the only child of the Cabello's, if she was honest with herself, she was still trying to balance the weight of that expectation with reality. It was a work in progress, but one that she was comfortable was heading in the right direction. For the first time in a long time, she was starting to finally feel comfortable with who she was and where her life was going.
She was going to graduate High School, go to her father's Alma Mata, Cornell in New York and she was going to do whatever was needed to ensure they were proud of her. Of course, a husband and baby would be needed. She doubted that would ever happen until recently, but now she was sure she'd found somebody who'd make long distance work, who understood everything she had to do, who knew her.
Camila sighed happily as she pulled open her school locker, looking at a picture of her and Cody Ackard at prom. After she finally lost the braces and baby weight, he'd finally taken an interest in her one summer and now they were navigating the paths of a teenage relationship that was under the spotlight of parents and the entire student body.
Because if people weren't convinced of Camila Cabello's it girl status before, then dating Cody Ackard was the final diamond in her crown. He was the pastor's son, star football player, straight A student who had every single person who attended their highschool in the palm of his hand. Nothing was going to take that away from her. Nothing she thought, blinking her eyes shut as she stood at her open locker.
"Hey Cam," A familiar voice interrupted her thoughts and when she opened her eyes, she was unsurprised to see her best friend, Ava Martin approaching her. "Are you coming to Brad's tonight?" She asked, watching Camila reapply her lip-gloss in the mirror.
Camila tried to hold in a snort as she thought about Brad. She always thought he was a walking oxymoron; star player on the football team with Cody, but drug taker and alcohol obsessed who was slowly destroying his hopes of a scholarship. His parties were infamous for getting out of hand.
"I can't," Camila pouted, throwing her makeup into her bag.
Ava rolled her eyes as Camila smiled and began to stare off into the distance dreamily. "Let me guess, you're seeing Cody?"
"Cody's new foster brother's been there for a week now and he wants me to meet him before he starts school on Monday," Camila explained as she slammed her locker shut and began to walk towards the exit with Ava at her side.
"His parents are fostering again?" Ava raised an eyebrow as they headed towards Camila's silver Mercedes.
"Cody said this guy's 18 in like 4 months, it's not like they're planning on adopting him."
Ava snorted, "They've adopted every child that's walked through their door."
Camila rolled her eyes as she unlocked her car, "Which is two. Apparently they're the last hope for the boy," She replied, "Cody said he heard the social worker saying they caught him doing coke."
Ava laughed at Camila's incredulous look, "Sounds like a real bad boy." She said wryly as Camila paused at her car door. "I'm pretty sure Cody's done coke with Brad at a party," Ava told her incredulously.
