5. Time to load up

It was a Thursday afternoon and everyone was awake bright and early to prepare for the following day's run, many were tired while others were teeming with energy as they began loading up the trucks. Four large trucks hold about six people in each while leaving enough space for supplies to be piled in. On a regular run, only one was used per group, but due to it being a much larger one, they would be using all four of them to cover as much ground as possible as well as fit more supplies. Alex planned to get enough supplies on this run so they wouldn't have to go out so frequently, and if all goes accordingly they would have enough to last at the very least a month or so without any supply runs. This would keep people from leaving so often, causing fewer deaths to occur. At least that's what they all hoped for.

Pyro's Pov:

I woke up around six this morning, I was requested (more like forced) to tag along on the run this week. Honestly, I had no clue what to do nor how all this worked, in my opinion, it was one massive headache and confusing as hell. I was informed Apollo would stop by and let me know when it was time to head out. I could also tell Alex wasn't exactly a big fan of mine, now and then I'd notice someone always keeping an eye on me as if I'm some sort of criminal. Real pain in my ass if I'm being honest. I mean seriously what am I gonna do? Steal a potato (oh noooo) geez.

It was about three hours later when I heard a knock at the door, I'd been lying there bored out of my mind as I waited to just get this all over and done with. I sighed softly and got up rubbing my eyes before swinging the door open, there stood Apollo, and man was he tall- pretty scary if yah ask me. He stared at me for a brief moment before speaking "You ready to go?" He asked and I nodded slightly "As ready as I'll ever be" I muttered and shut the door following him down the long corridors toward the main level where all the vehicles were stationed. I still didn't understand why I had to go if this run was so important, couldn't I jeopardize this or something since I'm not trained for these things? Whatever the case I wasn't thrilled.

Alex's POV:

I stood there silently as I checked off everything on the list, weapons? Check. Medical supplies? Check. My eyes wandered over the list and then around the room, so far the preparations were all going accordingly. I just needed to do a roll call in the next hour then we would be all set.

Within the next hour, I had everyone lined up and ready for roll call as well as a summary of yesterday's meeting, at the end of it I answered any questions and was sure to make sure everyone understood the assignment. Then I waited as everyone loaded up and piled into their assigned vehicles.

Kiyoshi's POV:

After roll call, we all waited around just chattering amongst ourselves, I get why we need the time to prep and go over things but I was itching to leave and kick some ass! I mean come on my adrenaline was pumping and I was super hyped. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people are afraid...but hell I couldn't give a damn about what happened to me. I lost everything except my best friend who kinda hates me anyway, so why not go out in style ya know! I grinned and shook my head, boy how cool would I look, going down while bashing brains in.  My thoughts were soon interrupted by a small scoff, I raised an eyebrow and peered up seeing Hiroki staring me down with his usual annoyed expression. I snickered and got up walking over to him with a smug expression. "Oh Hiroooo, whatcha looking at? can't get enough of this handsome face hmm?" I wiggled my brows as I watched his face contort into a look of utter disgust. "Like hell, I'd be glad if I never saw it again" he muttered and looked away. I laughed softly and moved closer propping my head on his shoulder "Aw Roki ya don't mean that do yah?" I frowned and stared at him with curious eyes. The truth is deep down sometimes it did hurt...Did he want me gone? He stared at me briefly and shrugged me off him not saying anything. I wish he'd something. Anything? What goes on in that head of yours...

Hiroki's POV:

Of course, I didn't mean it- But was I going to tell him? hell no. It'd give him another reason to bother me... He's my friend and all but sometimes I get overwhelmed with how outgoing and hyper he can be, I've always been that way since we were kids, but I'd never tell him that...I don't want him to change even if it's annoying at times. I sighed sharply and looked over at him, maybe I was imagining things but his eyes looked so sad. "hey um Kiyo-" I was cut short abruptly by Alex "Alright everyone! time to call it a night. head back to your rooms and rest up you'll need it!" I frowned and got up watching as he left so quickly before I could say anything. Maybe tomorrow I can catch him before he leaves? Or I can just wait till he gets back. He better come back... There wasn't much else I could do except return to my station and hope for the best. Since Iris would be going on the run, that left me in charge of the medic bay. I'm glad I was spared this run but I also wasn't too thrilled about taking on a leadership role. I just hoped when everyone left that everything would run as smoothly as possible and I wouldn't be stuck with some major medical emergency-

A few hours later:

Whispers of concern flutter through the crowd, mingling with the soft shuffle of feet. Inside the bunkers, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation, each occupant sitting in solitude, their thoughts consumed by the dangers that await them outside.

Inside the bunkers, individuals find their ways to prepare for rest. Some sit quietly, lost in their thoughts, while others engage in simple routines to unwind. The flickering light of candles or the gentle glow of solar-powered lamps provides a muted illumination, casting gentle shadows along the walls.

Each person closed their eyes, finding fleeting moments of peace amid the chaos of their reality. Tomorrow will bring its challenges, but for now, in the quiet solitude of their bunkers, they find a way to enjoy the quiet and rest.
