Last Chapter ~~~ 3rd Person POV

Max swung his flimsy iron sword, on the verge of breaking, at the skeleton. A few hits and it was down. He picked up the bones and the single arrow left behind, then turned to break the spawner before any more skeletons could spawn. Something caught his eye.

Max looked down. It was a diamond sword that glimmered and shone in the light with a pinkish tint (Max believed that was called an enchantment, but he couldn't quite remember). The handle had been wrapped tightly and expertly in cowhide. He picked it up and swung it around a bit, striking some cool action poses as well. "Woah..." It felt good in his hand: it felt like it belonged there.

The sound of bones clacking brought Max back to reality. He swung the sword at the skeleton quickly, and with the one decisive hit the bones collapsed in a heap to the ground. Max waited for the skeleton to disappear into code and leave behind the bones, but that's not what happened. The bones didn't move or disappear. The bow and a few arrows still lay there as well, along with the skull. All in perfect condition the way in had spawned. But Max noticed only one thing: a small hide string-tied pouch and a flimsy hide belt.

Max put the belt around his waist and opened the pouch. Inside was a blue powder. He was tempted to dip his finger in and taste it, like he had seen them do in the movies to identify the substance, but he wouldn't be able to figure it out from that, he knew. Besides, it could be something poisonous and that should not at any cost be eaten.

Max turned his attention back to the sword, suddenly remembering to break the spawner. Like the skeleton, he broke it in one hit. Though he couldn't quite remember because he hadn't been to too many dungeons before, he doubted that spawners usually broke in the first hit hit with a sword. But Max just shrugged it off and climbed out of the dungeon. His next priority, he thought, would be to make a sheath for his new sword. He'd make one out of cow hide, and attach it to his belt so he could carry it around. Would he sew it on there? Then he'd need wool and something to sew with: maybe a thorn from a rosebush or a whittled down stick.

But first Max needed the hide.

It wasn't long before Max came across a cow, and he chopped it down with his sword again. Again, he expected the mob to disappear into code and leave behind some hide and maybe some meat. But, like the skeleton, the body lay there, dead. So how am I supposed to - oh. Max winced at the realization of how he'd have to get his hide: by skinning the cow. So with hesitation and time, Max had enough hide to make the sheath. But what to do with the rest of the body? He couldn't just leave it there: that'd be wasteful, but he didn't want to have to get the rest of the cow manually by chopping it up. Maybe I'll come back later and get it, yeah yeah, I'll do that, Max thought to himself, though he didn't want to finish this at all, and had little intention of following through.

With his new sword, Max wanted to go exploring more. He pulled it out the sheath he had made and attached to his belt, and swung it around. He was proud of the handy-work he had done on the sheath, and the sword, well, he was still in a happy trance from finding the thing. In the distance, Max could see buildings, wooden ones. It must be a village. He sprinted over there, sword still in hand. Though he wasn't planning to kill anybody with it, he wanted scare the villagers a bit so he could loot their village. Villagers have good loot once in a while.

When Max arrived in front of the villagers, the villagers looked less than happy to see him. Their expressions, though with little graphics, visibly turned to horror as they all ran into their houses. Max had never seen quite this reaction from villagers before, and was a little confused, but he continued walking through the village.

Then Max saw one villager. It was an old man sitting on his porch in an old wooden rocking chair. Though his face still had little graphics, you could still see his wrinkles, and of course his white beard.
